BACKGROUND
Born to a clan on the border of Arcane and Plague, Seeker's magic reacted more with the Plaguebringer than the Arcanist, and saw them born with the tell-tale red eyes. Perhaps this should have been a warning for their family that what they were about to do wasn't going to work, but common sense did not prove a deterrent to them.

Seeker was born to be a sacrifice, after all. An unnamed child that meant nothing so much as the purpose it would serve. Their family would twist the Arcanist's magic until they summoned the Shade, and bind a fragment of it in their body -- a wealth of otherworldly knowledge and power. With such grand ambition, it was no surprise that things didn't go exactly as planned. They bound the fragment, of course -- and in its terror and fury, the creature that resulted killed them all.

When it regained its sense, it was no longer that unnamed child. It was Seeker, and their hunger for the knowledge they had been born to gather sent them all across Sornieth until, finally, they settled down atop Escalante to build their Garden of knowledge.

Though others think of Seeker as a permanent fixture of the Garden, they don't spend that much of their time there. There is, after all, always more to learn.

PERSONALITY

Below the observatory built into Escalante's side stands the Garden, the library and archives of the clan. But there's an unspoken rule that goes along with residing on the island, and it is this: any request for information goes through Sunflower, and that has mostly to do with the people in charge.

More than anyone else in the clan, there's something unnerving about Seeker that doesn't strictly have to do with their appearance. Discomfort around many of the Gardeners could be easily placed, and every one of them has their own unsettling quality; still, Seeker gives no indication of interest in cruelty out of the ordinary, or indeed, in interacting with anyone at all. They barely show themselves to anyone but the other Gardeners in the first place; yet somehow, any visitor can always tell that Seeker is there. It's not just the eyes; it's the streak of liquid black out of the corner of your eye, weaving through the shelves and stacks. Movement there one moment, and when you turn your head to follow it, gone as though it had never been.

If they speak, nobody has actually heard them do so -- all the interaction anyone else has had with them is fleeting glances as they disappear behind bookshelves, the sight of their scribbled notes in the margins of books and stacks of parchment with barely-legible handwriting. Apparently they run a very tight ship when it comes to organization, though the specifics are completely lost on anyone who hasn't devoted their entire career to sorting through everything. The surest way to aggravate them is by disrupting that -- those who try don't stay in the Grove long after.

Seeker sees too much, far more than any dragon should to maintain their sanity. It's surprising that the effect it's had on them hasn't driven them completely out of their mind.

Then again, maybe it has. It's not like anyone would know.
