Lore: Short Story Outline
Solara and Meridian go to visit our favorite sister clan in Shadow, the Loryss Collective, and have three daughters there: Coronadillana, Aurora, and Celestia. They are hatched during the last few days of Rockbreaker's Ceremony, and the youngest, Celestia, sees part of the clan's celebration and decides that the eternal memory of stone is the thing she values most in life. She starts telling people that when she grows up, she wants to be a Pearlcatcher. Her father thinks she's an insane blasphemer and that such a transformation would be a horrible crime against nature and against the Lightweaver. Her family has been purebred Imperials going back at least three generations, and no daughter of his is going to be some filthy, goddess-forsaken Pearlslobberer. (Yes, that's the racial slur.) Her grandfather, Hyperion, and the clan herbalist, Flamestrike, are the only ones who understand and support her. (He's a Ice-hatched storyteller, she's an Earth-hatched Pearlcatcher - of course, if anyone would understand, they would.) They encourage her to talk to their Light clan-eyes, who says that he's an intelligence agent, not a priest, and that if that's what Celestia truly wants in her heart, then that's what she should do. Celestia, Flamestrike, and Hyperion all go to talk to Adeptica and Shadowspell, who have the final say in matters involving the purchase of very expensive items like Breed Change Scrolls, and of course, they agree that she should be allowed to follow her heart, but inform Baystrider so that he can step in to mediate. Celestia uses the scroll, and it works. Her father won't speak to her except by growling, and her sisters are just plain weirded out. Her mother doesn't like it at first, either, but they come around slowly (with some help from Baystrider), especially after their other two daughters strike out on their own.
After the transformation, Celestia found herself becoming almost as fascinated with the movements of the sun and moon, developing a close bond with Luna in the process. She became an astronomer and astrologer, and both she and Luna became trusted counselors, advisors, and companions to Adeptica and Devon.
