Kappa

Kappa has always felt much older than he was. He's always moved a little slower, been a little more gruff. Never had the same energy as other dragons his age. In spite of his rough edges, Kappa's also a rather gentle dragon, most of the time. Like any guardian, he's strong and proud, and more than capable of defending what he cares about. Rather than choosing any specific charge, he's devoted his life to defending others, especially those who can't defend themselves. He's especially fond of his mate, Trolly, but he'll protect everyone who needs him.

He had a mate before, a guardian, but they only had one child together before she left him for someone else. And then he didn't see her again after that, assuming she'd been sent to serve the gods, just like their single child had been. It was a long while before he met Trolly. And they had a nest together. Two perfect little eggs. When they hatched, they presented a female guardian, and a male snapper, the opposite of their parents. At only a few days old, though, they had both been thrust into the auction house, and adopted into different clans. Trolly did her best to console him, but he was still saddened by their loss, as was she.

The pair stayed together always. But one day, the clan told them it was time for them to leave to serve the gods. But... they didn't want to. One member offhandedly mentioned that one of their children, who the fae that picked him up had been calling "Marshmallow" had gone to an earth clan. Trolly had always wanted to travel, so instead of leaving to serve the gods, he took her, and they traveled to the Shattered Plains, and started searching around. They asked everywhere they could. Until at last, they found someone who knew where their son had gone.

When they told their story to the dragons of the clan, they were more than happy to take in the pair. They showed them to Marshmallow's room, and the three had a happy reunion. Marshmallow eagerly told them about his life in this lair. How he'd been welcomed so warmly, and how he had a mate, a mirror who went by Lantana. He wasn't sure how long they'd stay together, but they were happy to spend time together. And his parents were proud of both of them, and happy to meet his mate. He even got to meet his small grandson, a tiny mirror called Creampuff, and enjoyed getting called "Grandpa".

Eventually, the pair decided they should move on. Kappa was glad to see Marshmallow had grown up into a strong young dragon, and it eased the feeling of loss he'd had ever since they'd both been sold. Maybe they would meet again, someday.
