Vax is one of the clan’s more unapproachable members, though there are those that are undeterred by his angry glares and harsh words. His work as a scout is very important for the clan’s intel and data collection and has helped immensely in their understanding of other dragon clans and the surrounding beast clans.

- Hatchling Biography -
Vax was born into a clan known for its legendary warriors. So when he hatched too soon, too small, and with an unsightly mutation, he was deemed a failure by clan standards.

Many of the clan elders were superstitious and claimed that the mutated child would bring bad luck to the clan, unless he was kept under lock and key. Vax’s parents did not agree with such claims and tried to reason with them in order to save their son, but their attempts ultimately failed.

The parents were forbidden from seeing their son, the elders fearing they would whisk the abomination away and let it loose in the wild, so Vax was put under the care of the elders.

Caring, however, they were not.

- Adolescent Biography -
It became clear that as Vax aged, his mutation lended him great physical prowess and advanced sight. However it did have its downsides, such as chronic pain in his legs and strange, intense headaches.

There were those that wished to use him and his heightened abilities as a sort of weapon, but the elders were against such an idea and kept Vax separate from the clan and any clan duties. His parents visited him as much as possible, but the elders restricted any interactions with him greatly, in an attempt to encourage the clan to see him the way they saw him: as a monster. He was not, by some miracle, locked up in a cage, but was restricted to a specific area with heavy security. His fear at what they’d do to him with nowhere else to go kept him from trying to escape.

Which ended up being the only reason he survived his clan’s massacre.

Vax only heard the alarms blare, the sound of weapons clashing, of skin tearing, pained grunts and screams that lasted for what felt like an eternity and then. Silence.

With his guards now gone, Vax finally left his prison only to come face to face with his entire clan decimated. With his heart in his throat, he searched the grounds and lifeless bodies for his parents. When he finally found them, both bodies ripped to shreds, he wept loud and hard for the only ones who ever cared about him.

He spent days with their bodies, switching between mourning and screaming his anger to the skies. When scavengers started appearing, Vax knew it was time to move on.

He buried his parents and set off, unsure of what to do next. He finally tried to live in such a way to make his parents proud: settle down, find a job, a clan, a family. But the reactions to his mutation were almost always fearful.

However, he couldn’t resent his mutation, since his heightened senses and strength saved him one too many times on the road. Turns out traveling alone, looking the way he did, was never a good idea, no matter where he went.

But he did resent whoever killed his parents. His hatred grew and grew, a steadily building time bomb, until he could think of nothing but revenge. It drove him, gave him a sense of purpose when his aimless wandering became too much.

In the end, there were too many close calls, too many potentially fatal errors made for Vax to live comfortably and honestly. His newly gained fighting experience coupled with his thirst for revenge drew the attention of some shady businesses, opening a door that couldn’t be uncrossed.

He didn’t care though and, once he was told of the connections he could make, he took the offer to become an assassin for hire without a second thought.

- Adult Biography -
Vax didn’t really care about building a reputation for himself, focused as he was on finding his parents’ killer, but his rather impressive skill set gained him a name for himself in the underworld anyway.

As he grew more confident in accepting jobs, other assassins began to give him tips and advice, helping to expand his expertise and knowledge on how to kill quickly and efficiently without drawing attention.

Once he’d built a solid life for himself, he became more picky about which jobs he’d take, only accepting ones that seemed like they could give him a lead on his parents’ murderers. The loss of his parents still hurt him, burning through his chest like a branding iron, and while there was nothing he could do to dull that pain except drink himself into a drunken stupor, killing others, who probably deserved it, for a living gave him an outlet for his anger, at the least.

But once he learned that his higher ups had been manipulating his anger for their own benefits and that a connection to his parents’ killer in the underworld was more unlikely than it had seemed, he exploded.

Leaving a trail of bodies, wrecked safehouses, and damaged goods, Vax disappeared off the radar to lose the assassins his ex-employers would no doubt send after him. Which is how he came into contact with Ausha and Dak, who took one look at his haggard appearance before kindly offering him a place to stay.

Figuring a shadow clan would be a good hiding place, Vax followed the pair back to their clan with the intention of staying temporarily, but after staying with the rather odd collection of dragons for a couple weeks, he found that he wasn’t in any particular rush to leave.

In the end, he didn’t really ask to become a member, it just sort of happened. When he didn’t do anything to change it, Ausha took it for what it was and threw him an official welcome party.

Vax now functions as the clan scout and stealth expert and is summoned when a task needs to be executed discreetly. He answers directly to the leaders and works with Argok and all his guards on occasion for security reasons.

Though sometimes the operations can get a bit...rough. Vax isn't really used to being a team player.

But he tries so he isn't punished too much when something goes wrong on his account, but he tends to get stuck doing cleanup in the Heart as motivation to do better. He absolutely loathes it most of the time, but there are nights when it's just him and a couple non-bothersome stragglers still awake and it's nice and peaceful and his mind has something to focus on besides his anger. It's on those nights while he's picking up stray dishes and cleaning tables that it doesn't really seem all that bad.

Of course, those nights are rare, but they are definitely appreciated.

While Ausha, Dak, and to some degree, Tiakken, know of Vax's background, they've kept it to themselves, which the wildclaw is grateful for. He's no longer an active assassin, and he may have burned most of his bridges, but he still has a couple connections.

And if he eventually finds whoever killed his birth clan so long ago through said connections, well, then that's nobody's business but his own.

- Additional Notes -
➤ Vax’s legs have become a constant source of pain, wounded or not, and despite all the medicines and remedies he’s tried over the years, nothing has helped. The reason for this is still unknown.
