Ancient stone rises above bone and earth and crumbling rock. Something breathes in the dark, coiled on the steps and twisting like wrought iron. A cathedral echoes with the voices of the dead.

How many times does an angel fall?
He doesn't sleep anymore. It's been years since he wound the spells around this place, infusing himself into the stone, but something went wrong. The stars all went out, and now the candle burns day and night - though the nights take over here, and the sun barely dares to touch the spires. Ormen's choral song spins in the air, mournful and beautiful.
Enchanted Candle The voices echoed in the dark, filling him with sorrow as he worked. Each tallow left a trail of wispy smoke, tracing patterns in the still, dusty air. Ormen lit the final flame, then blew lightly to extinguish the taper. In the glow of the candles, the sounds of the dead seemed muffled, reduced to an undercurrent of murmurs on the edge of hearing.

With barely a rustle, the Spiral hefted himself into the air, a soft ripple in the candle-flames trailing in his wake. He rose with the smoke up to the rafters of the cathedral, where the light was dimmer but more beautiful. Moonlight streamed through the stained glass, turning his world into a mosaic of colour, muted but glimmering.
