The coniferous forest remained in its endless frozen state. Pines were blanketed in the silent snow that fell from above. A lone golden fae sprung from tree branch to tree branch. She loved how the snow fell from the quivering limbs. There was a flash of movement up ahead, causing the fae to pause. She watched as another fae made his way to her.

How long had he been there? That was the worrying thought that crossed her mind as the dragon closed the distance between them. His mauve skin danced with the energy of a million stars, while his emerald wings remained transparent.

“Sorry to disturb you.” The fae apologetically looked down “I saw gold flashes in the trees and thought someone had hung their treasures.”
It was a stupid reason for him to come over. Sounded more like an excuse than anything. Her thoughts were cut off by the stranger.

“I’m Bellerophon. But my clan calls me Bells.” Bells watched her closely “What’s your name?”
She held her claws up and mimicked the playing of a Flute. Flute was born mute, this had always been an obstacle for her. She had no voice to communicate with others. She waited for Bells to ask what was wrong with her. He sat for a minute in thought, then said.

“Flute. Your name is Flute, right?”
Flute smiled.

“What are you doing out here all by yourself?”
Flute jumped from the branch she was sitting on. She beamed as snow tumbled down to the ground.

“Ah, I like the snow too. It is fun to play in. I feel like a hatchling again whenever I’m around it. May I join you in your fun?”
She nodded vigorously. It had been a while since she had interacted with another dragon. Bells and Flute played in the snow until the cold started to creep inside of them. By then the sun was setting and Bells took in a deep breath.

“Flute, do you have a place to stay?”
Flute shook her head. She did not want to spend another night in the cold.
Bells smiled, “I’m sure Albia would be glad to have you. She is a very compassionate dragon. We live in the Gladeveins.”
This offer warmed Flute’s heart. She nodded in excitement and hugged Bells.

He brought her to his clan’s home. It was a rich glade that teemed with life. Bells sprung into the center towards a pink guardian. Flute shyly followed behind.

“Who’s this Bells?” The guardian took notice of Flute immediately. Flute could feel the warmth radiating from Bells’ clan matriarch.

“This is Flute! She needs a home. May she stay here?” The dragons around them stopped with curiosity.

“She may stay as long as she likes. We always have room for one more.” The guardian stared directly at Flute “Welcome, I’m Albia. If you need anything don’t hesitate to ask.” After Albia had finished, the other dragons of the clan came and welcomed Flute.

Flute was overcome with delight, she finally had others who cared about her. No one in her new clan cared that she didn’t have a voice. A lot of them asked her to teach them her silent language.
As night fell over the clearing, Flute went and curled up into the amber nest she had made. She looked over the grass swaying in the grove and let peace settle in her heart as sleep slowly enveloped her into its soothing arms.
Through the portals of silence,
the healing sun of wisdom and peace
will shine upon you.

A little about Flute:
She is a mute fae
Her best friend is Bells (Bellerophon)
Flute hates being called Flute the Mute (she had trouble with this as a hatchling)
Flute made her own silent language by the use of her claws
She loves to teach any dragon interested in learning
When she is not teaching, she has Bells sing to her
