Imperials are known for being Majestic. For being Brave. For being… Well… Imperial.
Nikita is far from Majestic.
Let me explain.
NIkita was born unto a High-Standing Arcane Family. His mother was the perfectly Majestic Imperial Iskal, and his father was the perfectly Brave Silver. But Nikita… He was just Nikita. He wasn’t special. He was not overwhelmingly Majestic, and he wasn’t a incredibly Brave war hero. But he was special.
He was just normal.
No one wants a normal Imperial.
Each of his siblings left on their different paths, with different masters. But not Nikita. Everyday he sat at the House, waiting for the day that he would be taken to a new home. A home where he would be loved.
But no one came, and Nikita was left by himself. He slowly became even less Magnificent, even less Brave looking. As days passed, his mane grew matted, and his scales were but a dull grey.
One day, someone noticed him and didn’t instantly hurry by. She looked at him, her gray orbs, swirled with blood red streaks, penetrating into the deepest depths of his being. She looked at him for a few minutes, then turned her head to gaze at a purely golden female Skydancer. His heart sank. He spent the rest of his day in the same spot, raising his great head and spreading his fluffy wings every time the girl would wander back his way.
Finally, she came over leading a Female Imperial. He raised his head high. She placed her hand gently on his ice blue nose.
“Hello. What’s your name?” The girl slowly ran her hand over his dulled-out scales and ran fingers through his tangled mane. Nikita looked at her imploringly. Please. He begged. She placed the Female Imperial’s lead onto the floor gently before reaching into her backpack. The she-dragon looked at Nikita.
Hello.
The Female’s voice rang like silk through him. She wasn’t speaking in any louder than a growl, but it felt as if she were in his head. Plague Dragon.
Oh, um, Hi.
My name is Cassus. Who are you?
My name is Nikita.
My master has taken a liking to you…
Who is she?
Her name is Remmi. She saved me a long time ago.
You weren’t just adopted? And what do you mean by saved?
The she-dragon snorted. Of course not, silly. I’ve been with Remmi for ages. And I was meant to go to the Coliseum as a warrior. She lightly bopped him on the nose with the tip of her wing. The silk touch of her feathers inferred lots of attention, but she-no, Cassus, hardly seemed vain.
Soft.
Yes, Remmi likes brushing, grooming, shining, buffing, and any other form of anything that makes us look pretty.
Cassus swung her head at Remmi, who was standing up, a navy silk scarf in hand and a Darksteel Necklace. She gently looped the scarf around Nakita’s neck, and around his horns.
“Welcome to the Pride, you Beautiful Imperial, you.”
That was the day Nikita learned two things. He didn’t have to be Magnificent, and he didn’t have to be brave. It didn’t matter how bad of a shape he was in, Remmi would always love him.
And the second was that Cassus wasn’t the only one in the Lair… There were WAY more friends to be made.
