The Second Sister.

she was born to the matriarch of a shadow clan, as was her sister.

their third clutchmate volunteered to join the ranks of the shadowbinder. they didn't. a life of servitude didn't seem like enough to the mischievous sisters, and both of them dreamt for much more; their heads were filled with adventure and danger, and often they would make up stories together in the dead of night, when everyone else was sound asleep.

it was during one of those nights that they decided to leave together.

with no destination in mind, they simply flew out, following whichever way provided them with the most sustenance. many seasons passed, punctuated by close brushes with death, closely won fights, long days of hiding as they waited for the cover of night. not once did they stray from each other, and often they would keep watch over one another to keep the dangers at bay, tails intertwined in their sleep to make sure the other would not leave them.

by the time they reached the viridian labyrinth, their hunger for adventure had been satiated, and both of them were content with the life they'd lived.

they stumbled upon an empty cenote at the same time a clutch of mirrors did; both groups were as weary as the other, and it only took a few half-hearted growls for the aggression to diffuse; soon, they were drinking from the same source, neither of them feeling the need to leave. the fae sisters took pity of the mirrors and their hatchlings, and offered peace; they all settled together, and quickly began to enjoy each other's presences and the safety of numbers.

soon, the sisters had spun their roosts, found their mates; a clan slowly began to form around them, new friends appeared, hatchlings were born.

they both realized that this life, too, was an adventure worth having.
