The sleeping beast, Rolan was once like any other, he lived a good life, he had children, a home and a wife to return to. One day he would awake and feel like something was off. His wife was at his side, he had his children, but were they his? Something was strange as he held his wife's hand, was this his wife? He would wake in the night to his son staring at him, the fear growing as he realized something. He didn't recognize him, his face wasn't right, this wife by his side wasn't the right one, something was wrong, and then he would awake once more. This time he felt strange, he was alone, but he couldn't remember ever feeling this lonely. Was someone supposed to be there? Why was he so cold, why did his feet burn as he walked upon the snow, wasn't it just summer? How long had be been walking, why did the world look so big and frightening. His vision blurred as he hit the floor, had he tripped? He looked back at the bloody trail he was leaving in the fresh snow as he closed his eyes one last time.

When he awoke, he was in a dark place, he was shackled in cuffs weathered away by time, his wrists scarred and his body stiff. It was cold, but bearable. He tugged at the shackles, they crumbled easily as he pulled away. How strange, why was he restrained? He wanted to go home but where was that again? Part of him wanted to go to the vast deserts of the Shifting expanse, but home seemed more like the violent tides of the reef, or perhaps he would return to the southern ice field. His mind was torn, each time he would walk in one direction his body would turn unwillingly towards another. He had been shackled in his bipedal form, but he could sustain it no longer.

Pain, unbearable pain. What was usually an instant transformation was now as if his body was being torn apart, ripped and reassembled. His flesh bubbled, his blood poured from his orifices as he screamed in agony. His screams seemed to echo in the chamber, but they didn't sound right, it was if a symphony of hoarse voices accompanied his own. He watched in horror as a head that wasn't his own ripped its way out from his hide, as claws emerged with scars and damage he didn't recognize and the darkness enveloped his disfigured form.

Rolan is a anomaly most didn't consider possible. He is a artificial Emperor, created by placing a live Imperial in a tomb full of unsealed corpses. Through magic and his own will power, he has won control of his body. Bilu is his "anchor",as she has a spiritual bell she uses to keep his emotions in check and prevent the other minds from taking control. Transforming often takes up most of his stamina and thus he will hibernate until he is needed. He is aware of his power and the fear that it brings to others and thus does not talk much or mingle with others. When he awakes he will usually only relay messages through Bilu or his familiar.
