Biography
A clan offering from an Ice tribe, Astoria was passed between many different clans as a hatchling. She learned the term "token ice rep" early on and learned to bow her head while other clan heads sniffed, pawed at, and frankly ignored her. And why wouldn't they? She was physically frail, walked with a great deal of stiffness, and almost never flew. She was always wracked with pain and fits of coughing.
But then came a tiny light in the darkness of the Shadow sales dens, a little fey with coloration almost like herself. But the tiny queen's eyes were as dark as any other Shadow. Regardless, without so much as touching, or judging in any manner that made Astoria question her self-worth, the tiny fey nodded. "You will suit us well. Come."
While Astoria is somewhat removed from the petty infighting of the queen and her consorts, the fact that no one questions her or ignores her for being who she is - nor is she in any way "token" (as many other members of the clan are white and blue) she has found a place much unlike what she expected.
When wandering on the moors, she found the ghost of a dragon. A shade, calling himself "Shadow". While he faded at a distance, when he drew near he seemed almost real to her. And his presence made the nagging pain in her body fade, just a little. When Shadow is around, everything seems so much better. And the wisdom he granted about the 'other side' was more than enough to keep the more troublesome dragons who might disturb her from being a bother. While she doesn't seem to worship the Shadowbinder, or anyone at all, her uncanny ability to speak TRUTH at other dragons seems to be more than enough to get them to leave her a VERY wide berth.
She and Shadow were encouraged to try producing children at Hime's insistance, and indeed, they had two small, very weak children. Around the same time, more souls began to make themselves known, and after one of them atteched himself to her daughter, Astoria was devestated to find her dead a few days later, and her daughter's soul joyously flying with her new mate.
While she doesn't blame her daughter's new mate, she wonders if there is no hope to be freed from her own illness, or if the fate of all her children will be to die and be locked to the Shadowbinder's lands.

I will fly away
