Two figures danced above the Mirrorlight Promenade – weaving through the clear and blinding sky, twisting passed one another, mingled in their own world like shadow puppets in their play. Perhaps some would find the linen canvas they acted upon confining, but there was a comfort to their constant, a purpose they had since birth, a partner that was there since the start.

Artorias had a life before meeting her. Only enough to find the transition strange. To have his adult life written down in contract to another clan like a product, slowly being brought up to breed. But he was young, and soon felt himself slipping into the solace that was his Nyx.

Feeling the warmth of his partner rest beneath him. The gentle beat of her heart, the little ways he had learned her body moved. Then, a cry he never wished to hear, the wobble of a little uneven egg-shape oval being torn from a mother’s embrace. They had both lunged, extracting something primal from inside – a weak but passionate vigor.

Eventually, they found themselves alone in an empty nest. A little bit more tattered and worse for wear. Some more broken, trying to work through what happened. He found himself clinging even harder to the one thing he knew would stay.
