Izzys
"Dear one, have you forgotten what I have done for you?"
Izzys has long been a creature of the Shade, even before she took the Trials and became a Necromancer, she served. She was a powerful mage years before she attempted the Trials, many vile rituals and incantations already tucked away in her mind and ready to be referenced. She sought out the Trials with the intention of immediately betraying the Plaguebringer for the Shade. It is unclear to this day how she succeeded in gaining the Mother's blessing when her intent was so far from Her teachings. However it happened, it ended with her following an old Lich back to Shadow in disguise, as she had remained a Necromancer in truth only as long as it took to reach out to the Shade. Later, when he had taught her everything she could wheedle from him, she used her greater faith and ability to destroy him utterly, feeding upon what little remained of his soul before it was lost to oblivion. Now, she spends her time hunting those who would stand against the Shade and teaching her young apprentice Dyrva. Though training may be the wrong word, for while she teaches, she also ensures that he does not grow powerful enough to turn on her as she turned on her master. |

A sign of anonymity and service. The thought is quiet, almost unheard, in the back of her mind as Izzys taps her claws against the carved wooden mask. It sounds like the voice of her 'mentor', now long buried, when he was on one of his rants. He had hated that choosing to wear one had marked him as a devout in the eyes of many dragons; it had never seemed to strike him that that impression was what had kept them safe for some weeks as they fled. Two Lichs in the heart of Plague and surrounded by Necromancers? They'd have been slaughtered within the day if anyone had bothered to look past their masks and realize what they were. But that had been a long time ago. Now she was the mentor, and there was no one to tell her what she could and could not do with the power she had claimed for herself. Here, under the protective fell aura of Shadow, she did not need to wear a mask or hide herself. There were few Necromancers here, and the few she had found were little more than idealist missionaries. And Shadow dragons were so accommodating, what with each of them looking just as much a Shade creature as not and imbued with a dark magic that threw of the senses of any pursuers. Life was easier here. She was free to teach her apprentice and experiment with her own still-expanding abilities, all with nothing to bother them other than the occasional curious local. Then, why she frowns at the offending object is a mask painted with the Plaguebringer's hand this far away from her area of influence? More importantly, who brought it, and where are they now? Behind and to her left, Dyrva hisses softly, and she turns her dark gaze to the bright blue hide of her protégé. "What is it?" His crest stands on end, a clear signal of his agitation, as he responds, not bothering to turn from carefully surveying the undergrowth. "From the smell of it, there was an entire party of them. No fewer than four individuals I figure, and all headed for the border." That would explain the hiss. They are both powerful, but a group that large this far from home is likely to be entirely Necromancers and Servi, a dangerous threat on a good day. Izzys growls and lashes her tail as she turns her attention back to the mask in her claws. "We're going to follow them. If they're leaving a trail this obvious and even dropping something this important, they're either rushing blindly or setting up a trap." Dyrva nods at her assessment, gathering himself and leaning up, ready to move. "And if the latter, its better to deal with them before they're ready for us." She wastes no more time and launches herself westward in the direction of the trail. Her passage leaves deep furrows in the ground from her claws, and lying atop them are a few broken shards of wood stained black around the edges and smoking. Now she will be the hunter instead of the hunted. |
