Biography

I'm not mean, I'm not cold hearted.
I'm not cruel nor callous.
I am an Ice dragon.
But I'm also a nice dragon.

He had wandered away from his home clan, out into the tundra.

"Woof!"

He followed the white wolf, shivering in the snow. "Woof!" He mimicked it, wagging his tail. The wolf turned to him and snarled. The hatchling ducked away from it's snapping fangs. It growled at him again. The hatchling cocked his head. "Woof!" He mimicked it again. This time the white wolf returned the twist of the head, studying him intently. The hatchling edged closer. The wolf took a few pawsteps back, overwhelmed, but curious. "Woof!" He said again. The wolf wagged it's tail and picked him up by the scruff of the neck, carrying him off. It was a she-wolf, one who had a den full of newborn pups back at home, three had died from the cold, and only one was left. Her mothering instinct was running strong. This little lost hatchling, she would raise it, she would love it, along with her single pup left. Pups needed playmates, company. Maybe this hatchling's mother had abandoned it. She wouldn't.

~~~~
Time passed and the small white pup grew stronger and older, and with him, the young hatchling. The white she-wolf named him "Hagalaz" for he was covered in ice as a marking on his dark scales.
They were walking, when suddenly they heard many, many howls in the distance. Hagalaz shuddered, looking up at his mother she-wolf. The other wolf pup, Isaz, did as well.
The mother wolf shook her head, as if dismissing their worries, yet not her own. Her hair still stood stiff. They continued traveling throughout the evening, and into the night...
The howls grew louder and louder, and Hagalaz and Isaz kept close to their mother, casting side glances at the woods to their left. They all hurried along.
Mother wolf growled, as suddenly a whole pack of wolves came dashing by. The stopped once they surrounded them, whining and growling all together, eyes shining brightly, yet they waited. Mother wolf stood protectively over Hagalaz and Isaz, ears laid back and lip curled in snarl.
They waited. Nothing. The wolves around them stomped their feet in anticipation, their muscles tense and ready to move, yet they didn't move a muscle.
Finally, something came. It looked like a wolf by outline, only it was huge. Giant. Mother wolf stood steady, though she was shaking as she looked up at the big beast. Hagalaz and Isaz shrank in fear.
The wolves made way for the giant wolf, tails lowered, as well as eyes lowered. This was their Alpha.
A black wolf made it's way into the circle, and it could easily be told it was a Beta by pose and stance, tail held high as she looked with challenging eyes at any wolves who dared disobey, all but the Alpha. None did. She stared challenging at Mother wolf.
Mother wolf held steady, but her eyes, slowly, drooped downward, she would die if she tried to fight all these wolves.
Hagalaz shuddered, Isaz whined.
The Alpha made his way fully into the circle, then it could be clearly seen that indeed he was not a wolf. He spread his wings out in authority. He was an Imperial.
Mother wolf's hairs along her spine stood stiff, but instead of cowering, she still stood firm, and even let her eyes meet the Alpha Imperial's eyes, before glancing down again, still protecting her little pup and hatchling. The Alpha Imperial snorted, coming closer, then stopped. He spotted the small dragon hatchling. Hagalaz scurried closer to his mother, trying to hide underneath her. The imperial grabbed him and pulled him away. Yelping, growling, the hatchling tried to wiggle away. He had forgotten the dragonic language, and now only used the language of the wolves. The Mother wolf snarled and snapped at the Imperial, but his scales were thick and the biting did no good. She couldn't help it though, she wanted her Hagalaz back. The the wolves growled at the defiance against their alpha, but the Imperial didn't mind. He looked at Hagalaz, who had calmed down now.
The Alpha peeled back his wolf cape. "Hello? Little one?" He asked softly.
The hatchling looked curious, at him. He had heard those words. That language, he knew it. It was familiar, yet faraway....
The Imperial sighed and sat him back down. Mother wolf and Isaz ran over to him, licking him and glancing at the Imperial, frightened. The Imperial lowered his head down, looking into their eyes, studying them. "Come. I am Arctique. I will protect you and your pups." He said in wolf to Mother wolf. Mother wolf looked at him curiously. A dragon who spoke wolf and led a pack? She then glanced at Hagalaz. Maybe this is just what her pup needed... She shook her head, and the pack welcomed her into it's ranks.
One day, when Isaz and Hagalaz were close to maturity, able to hunt by themselves, they decided they'd go out. Arctique had re-taught the hatchling dragonic language, and proven to be quite the father figure to him, even calling him "my pup". Not only that, but he taught him how to fly, something Mother wolf would never be able to do.
And that's exactly what he was doing right at the moment when he decided to go hunt with his brother Isaz.
Now, having scales instead of fur was a pain in the cold weather of the Southern Icefield, and the membrane of his wings were always under threat from the frost and biting cold. So Arctique had found an old kilt used by dragon warriors to keep Hagalaz warm, and he had also fashioned a pair of feathered wings and a "faux wolf" wolf cape from cloth and the shedded fur of the white wolves in the pack, who where happy to be rid of their fur. Not only did all this keep the young dragon warm, but it also made him look more wolfish, because the wolves of the pack were often frightened by his dragon appearance and it unsettled them greatly, so the faux wolf cape was an improvement.
Back to the story, Hagalaz and Isaz went out hunting, and caught five fine fat rabbits, and brought them back to the camp. Mother wolf was proud. Arctique came back to camp with two elk that he and the rest of the pack had caught. That night they all were well, and fell into a deep sleep.
That night, Hagalaz's powers came forth. He suddenly woke from his slumber and screeched, eyes black. Arctique and the others awoke.
Hagalaz had been born a black ice dragon, a corrupt breed of dragons that had dark ice powers of mind control and frostbite. From his time with the wolves, he had never learned this. He had never heard his parents tell him this, and if they had, he had forgotten.
Hagalaz was out of control, and was blasting sharp bits of ice out of his mouth at wolves, who yelped and backed away. "Hagalaz, stop!" Arctique growled, jumping up. One glance at those black eyes and Arctique knew. He was a black ice dragon. Arctique herded the pack away, but he could not keep Mother wolf back. She ran out toward Hagalaz, the hatchling she loved and had raised. Hagalaz turned towards his mother and grabbed her, biting out tufts of her fur, trying to freeze her paws. She yelped and whined, looking into his eyes, trying to get him to stop. It was no use.
Hagalaz was hardly Hagalaz anymore, but a brief bit of light came to his eyes. "M-mother?" He whined, then his eyes rolled back and he passed out.
~*~
Days had passed, and Hagalaz was still out cold. Sometimes he struggled in his sleep, and sometimes he'd wake. Sometimes he'd be the Hagalaz everyone knew and loved, other times, his Black Ice powers would show.
Mother wolf had been healed, she had no lasting damage.
Eventually, Hagalaz woke up. Gasping, he thrashed around. "Make it stop! Take it away! Please, please!" He begged.
Arctique rushed over. "What? Take what away?" He asked.
"My-my powers! I don't want-... To hurt... Anyone...! ELSE... EVER AGAIN!" Hagalaz said through struggled gasps.
Arctique nodded, then left quickly. When he returned later he had a Mirror at his side. The mirror approached. "Are you sure this is what you want to do? It'll leave him quite weak." The mirror rasped.
"It is what he wants, and it must be done." Arctique said.
"Okay then...." The mirror said and her eyes glowed, she moved her claws a certain way, then blackness started to steam out of Hagalaz's eyes, and the Mirror pulled it into a bag and closed it swiftly after the darkness was fully out of Hagalaz, then marked several runes upon the bag to keep the darkness in.
"It is done. It would be best if he changed his breed and inscribe his scales with the runes of good, luck, and protection later on, it is a trait that would be passed through to all his offspring and keep them from the darkness of the black ice powers as well. The runes would purge any dark powers from his offspring. For him as well, it would keep him protected from it's darkness ever encroaching upon him again. He should be fine for a long time however. Good luck." The mirror said and left.
Arctique sighed and watched Hagalaz. He was like a son to him. He hoped that Hagalaz would be okay. Mother wolf and Isaz did as well...
Hagalaz awoke with a gasp, and Arctique hurried over. "It's... It's gone... Thank you." He said weakly to his father figure. Arctique smiled.
Black Ice Dragons
Black Ice Dragons were once normal dragons but are said to be "corrupted" when they are just eggs. Due to being "corrupted" they have dark ice powers like Mind control and Frost bite. Black Ice dragons are clever, ambitious, and have there wits.
