NIRUIN

“I could taste the lies in your mouth every time I kissed you, but I loved you too much to notice.” |

______ Niruin is a big strong tank of a dragon... with a certain passion for moths As the clan's patriarch, his primary role is to guide dragons through training, and to intervene when they take a bigger bite than they can handle ______The nature of his relationship with Sannan is purely platonic. The two have no romantic bonds, though the ghosts of their actions suggest that may have been the case in the past. During the founding years of the clan, he worked as an equal to her; though his power seems to be fading as time passes and Sannan works to make herself the Horde's sole leader. |

RARELY does Niruin find himself reflecting on where he came from. The reason is much simpler than Sannan's; while Niruin would not mind remembering his past, he just simply cannot seem to. He remembers his adolescense, spent on the ruins of the Scarred Wasteland, running with other Plagueflight to scrape a living off the desolation of the lands. He remembers studying moths by the pale light of the moon. He remembers his world stopping completely when he found Sannan.
HER PRESENCE was the most compelling thing he can recall of her. She was not remarkable. Her coat was basic, and she was clad in the scraps that most inhabitants of this plague-wretched land wore. But the way she carried herself, with confidence, with the air of someone who knew what they wanted and suffered nothing less, drew him in like flies to honey. He knew that he would follow her to the edge of the Wyrmwound if she asked it of him, and though it took him many days and nights of chipping away at her icy demeanor, she eventually seemed to reciprocate his feelings.
A CRUEL MISTRESS was what his lover turned out to be. Niruin had lulled into a sense of security after they had settled and started their family; he remembers his first eggs hatching and peering down at large red eyes. He remembers fighting tooth and nail alongside Sannan to provide for the growing hatchlings. Another male joined them; he can no longer recall his name, just remembers that the other Guardian had impressed them both with his skills in alchemy, and that having the extra muscle had stabilized their life in the Horde.
BUT THEN the male left. Worse, his children left. Had they left? Sannan had removed them. One night he had lulled them to sleep, the next they were gone, and Sannan had assured him it was what they had wanted. He had trusted her. More members had joined. Things had seemed to get better. He adopted Kilera, took her under his wing, taught her to fight. Watched her grow into a strong young mirror dragon. But Sannan began to grow more distant, until he found himself reaching for her, and she was gone.
"Your children were weak." She chided, gently, but with no warmth to her voice. "They were weak because of you."
And Niruin, who had been strongest of his friends, who had killed beasts larger than him and watched the life drain from foes that others had shied from, felt small for the first time in his life.
RECOVERY was a hard process. Acrux, who had joined the Horde during it's influx of new members, helped him weather the brunt of it. They have one daughter, Mittrei, whom Niruin would die for.
He rules amiably alongside Sannan, but his anger for her betrayal never truly healed.
RECENTLY things have gotten worse. Acrux grows distant from him, and Sannan works fervently to send Mittrei to the Plaguebringer. Niruin isn't optimistic about the future, but remains stoic, despite Sannan's continued efforts to root out the sources of his happiness.
