______ On a night without moonlight, without even a hint of a breeze, inky waters pulse against a secluded shore. Debris is scattered across sea-polished stones, the remnants of a mighty storm that had torn across the continent. Driftwood, seaweed and stranded sea life thrown against the land, discarded and forgotten. The tempest had long since passed and all was silence and shattered in it's wake.


______ It is from amongst this scattered flotsam that a small imperial crawls, his blue scales and dark wings making him camouflaged in the gloom. Only the sharpest of eyes would catch the feeble movement, and on any other night the stranded hatchling might have been overlooked. But tonight there is a watcher. Kelpie, witch of the sea, a-roaming from her clan's airborn lair in search of trinkets for her casting. As pale and shining as moonlight she scans the cobbled beach calmly. Only her eyes betray the concern she feels, her awareness of the currents warning her that someone had been brought to this place. Someone in need of help.


______ Cast far away from the land of his hatching, from a family he will never know, the young imperial was cared for by the gentle sea witch. But no matter how hard he tried to call it home nor how much he loved his adoptive mother, the wind-lair of the Bastion did not resonate with him. With his bright gaze often turning to the horizon across the sea, Ventarion wondered if he was fated to ever be a child of the currents, or perhaps his soul was being pulled by a great destiny. Whichever it might be, he knew he would not be content until he set out across the deep waters that beckoned him.
