Unhatched egg lore of Emberglo, Moonlit Nyyt Weyr

Tundra eggs are those left during the breed's grazing sessions as sometimes grazing is more important than remaining in the lair. Plenty of food must be ingested to produce a winter coat or to replenish and revitalize a summer coat. When it is their turn to leave the lair and graze, nothing keeps a female Tundra from their session, not even dropping an egg.

Mirror eggs are those discarded by females who are involved in a Swarm. A Swarm is a serious event which nothing, not even caring for their eggs, can disturb.

Guardian eggs are those left behind while on Search. The female knows that this is not the charge they are seeking, so she lays the egg and moves along. Perhaps this egg will be the Charge of another.

Fae, the hummingbirds of the dragon world, cannot be weighed down. If an egg becomes too much to carry, it is left behind while the dragon goes about its work. An egg cannot be in an uncompleted nest, so if the timing is off and the nest is not fully prepared then the next egg produced will go into the completed nest.

Nocturne eggs are deliberately spread, like those of the Cowbird or Black-headed Duck. These females do not make nests but use the nests of others. Any convenient spot during the Night of the Nocturne, the traditional time of going forth and spreading the Nocturne breed over Sornieth, can hold their single eggs. Those who are members of a clan make use of an existing clan nest. Nocturnes will mimic the nesting habits of fellow clan members but do not build their own nests.

Bogsneak eggs were created through the Bogsneak Mutagen. The lightning of Sornieth was infected with the various ingredients when Baldwin's cauldron was struck. Any storm, with lightning, can cause the ingredients to form in the correct combination to release minute scintilla of matter spread over the land. These will develop, usually in about 12 hours, into Unhatched Bogsneak eggs, which can then be hatched as any other unhatched egg.

Besides these above examples, there are cases of thievery by Beastclans or even Ridgebacks, who then trade which is also known as 'auction' the unhatched egg for treasure and gems that can be used for the food items they are seeking. This is one way for Ridgebacks to get seafood without having to go near the water. Ridgebacks are thrilled when they find a lone egg as there are clans who will pay highly for the Unhatched Egg at the Auction House. Some Ridgebacks make a habit of following thunderstorms to find the tiny developing Bogsneak eggs left behind.

Hatching - there are specialists within the clans similar to the Alchemists who can encourage the hatching of eggs. They can influence the timing of an egg, either holding off the emergence of the babe or cause immediate results. They are revered dragons - when a clan has a dragon with these talents, they are honored as the Gen1 eggs allow the spreading of new lines within a clan. These hatching specialists are also called upon to 'Boon' a nest for immediate hatching.
