Clan Stormreach is home to many dragons that came to The Levinworks seeking the unexplained, though very few can claim to be among the clan purely because they are an oddity in themselves. Allegedly hatched from an egg that endured prolonged exposure to unnatural energies, Anantos is a nocturne with unusual abilities that serve just as much as a curse as they do a gift. Born seemingly capable of astral projection, it was while scrambling through various binding enchantments and spells to stop the hatchling Anantos’ soul from simply abandoning his body that it was discovered that some of it never left at all; in fact, it split apart. Known to some as the "Splintersoul”, Anantos has the power to create fragments of his own soul and as an extension, take possession of objects or even creatures with these shards of himself. Able to channel his consciousness into any of these fragments, Anantos can essentially be in two bodies at once. Unfortunately, the drawbacks to this incredible skill are considerable; over time, both Anantos’ body and soul have begun to deteriorate in health, held together only by regular medical treatment and re-application of the magic keeping his spirit from simply shattering into pieces. Beyond just the damage to his physical well-being, echoes from all the places his soul shards have been -- and all the pieces which he has lost -- haunt him regularly, plaguing the nocturne with nightmares and occasional hallucinations. Living with this burden, Anantos has grown to be an extremely apathetic adult and largely doesn’t care about his own health, frequently making rash decisions which endanger his life. Not really one to mince words and guilty of a dark sense of humour, several of his clan-mates find him hard to deal with and difficult to get close to, though a few suspect it’s deliberate. With little interest in living a long life, Anantos has taken to just doing whatever he feels like with it. If it were any other dragon, this might serve a problem to the clan; thankfully, for all the apathy he feels towards himself, Anantos cares deeply for those around him. Although completely disinterested in The Levinworks, Anantos' medical needs can only be attended to be the enigmatic shaman Sarthunias, who has no interest in leaving Clan Stormreach any time soon. Though the nocturne would rather just walk away, ultimately the insistence of his friends that he stays for continued treatment keeps Anantos around. Considering the rising threat of the clan’s ominous home, however, having such a uniquely talented individual around may not be so bad an idea... |
