Biography

Veata is loyal only to Valkyrie. By extension that means she works for Thanatos. Veata practically lives in the sky surrounding the castle, hardly every coming down but to stand with Valkyrie. She and Valk are the team sent out to eliminate beastclan to claim for the territory when Seraphina sees fit.

The pretty jewelry and clothing were the only requirement to make them look like ornate guards than dragons of carnage.

She grew up in the skies, her birth clan living among the floating dens of Cloudsong. While they were not of ancient and influential blood they still held to old Cloudsong traditions. They were friendly and hospitable, trained their own to bring honor to the clan, and flourished with music and art. All of these she had witnessed from a young age but it was not to be for her. Veata grew in a lower class standing and didn't get to be accustomed with the finer arts the higher bred of her clan did nor was she unabashedly intrigued by them anyway. Veata was meant to be sold for the services to the gods; exaltion. While an honor it was also considered the customary choice. A dragon with no desirable patterns or colors? Dragons whose time it was to leave the clan for whatever reason their leader made? All are sent to whoever's god to serve for a noble cause. They will be put to use.

A young Ridgeback with no real ambition of her own as she saw the way her world was structured. Though at the time fighting was all she knew because it was the cards she was handed. So she might as well become good at it. Thus she aged being somewhat cynical towards clans who lived by a class structure.

It's all the little reasons why she was able to love being among some old rooted plague dragons for years. No formalities because of a name, you earned your place with claws, blood, and loyalty. If you had to pick a bone with someone you told them outright where brawling it out was encouraged. And after all that time Veata thinks she did taken to liking the arts after all. The sound of beating drums and rowdy dragons roaring some victory tune was sweet to her ears. The paintings along clan walls of battles won and bones carved with blessings of strong health were what she saw that meant something in a way that pretty pottery or idle flute music did not.

It's a wonder she ever ended up here in the Sunbeam Ruins were it not for Valkyrie.

Veata learned from a very young age she could utilize the blades along her body in flight for battle. She became accustomed to showing off her speed and finesse to fight which only increased in skill as she aged. Soon that want to impress became an unfulfilled desire and grew into the need to be challenged. She craved to use her techniques on battlefields instead of on idle training dummies or restrained sparring partners she practiced most of her life on.

Lucky for her, this was not an era of peace. The tides were shifting, the flights always at war. The land of Sornieth was on the verge of a tipping point that dragonkind was not coming back from. The armies of the Exalted from every flight bolstering in recent months, also sensing this strange presence exuding from their land as well as the absence of their gods in such a time.

Wise clans began making their moves to fortify against the unknown. During this time Veata traveled to many clans seeking to have a skilled airborne fighter. For a time she remained in the Wasteland where she learned of their battle customs and techniques. That time in her life was when Veata truly felt alive among the ruthlessness of dragons accustomed to death. She realized she hated being forced to show mercy when her opponent was unworthy of it. Here she learned brutality. Here she earned the names of Streaking Death, the Sky Guillotine, her Ballad of Blood, the Golden Spear. And she reveled in all of it.

Her glory was lost to local history when the clan fell. A challenge of tradition, one clan leader against the other. The loser was to be left alive to cling for life, if they died they were unworthy of being called a child of the Plaguebringer, thus condemning the clan as well. The defeated dragons were to be exiled from their lands. The two leaders were long since rivals from their hatchling days as Veata could recall the heavy bitterness in the air and in their words as they clashed. Her own leader was strong, but the years were not kind to them in their age. She could do nothing as she watched her clan leader be torn apart.

Her leader did not survive the night. In the early light of dawn the winning dragon called the order, unbeknownst to them of the tradition Veata's clan held. Their leader was savage and brutal, but held honor to a well-fought life. In anticipation of their final battle, commonly a last death wish was left behind to clan members. Inscribed on a rotten tooth no bigger than her palm were the words-

"Bury me with their bones."

Neither clan was left enough to seize those lands.

There's a story somewhere between the time of her clan's final battle and the King's Court. Where she wandered aimlessly, weakened in the condemning Boneyard. Where she met this creature in the wasteland with gnashing teeth and blood-red predatory eyes. This thing that wouldn't die when she struck and wouldn't attack when it caught up again.

A story for another time.
