Precursor

Nova stood atop a ridge overlooking his charge; a lost gate keeper. Her gateway lost too time and spaces half slumped over in ruin from a battle long past. The behemoth paid a heavy price defending the gate, was immobilized and left defenseless to the mercy of the elements. The precursor that found her immobilized beside the gateway had no proxies and a malfunctioning chronometer, making him just as lost as her. So Nova, day in day out for millennia, perches above the Crest of the giant, and dispatches any perceived threat that wanders too close. As the gate keepers core fades, he ventures out, lending her his visual and audible feeds, as a means too curb their loneliness. It became routine to have patrols with one another, through transference, as well as long conversation pings back and forth on a private network.
Mars' rust sunset danced brilliantly across the precursor's ivory frame and golden accents. He ex vented begrudgingly as red sand kicked up into his open vents, causing him to puff out water vapor in an attempt to purge the foriegn material. His Huds pinged him a warning of a potential storm incoming. The gatekeeper had the foresight to set up a primitive weather and perimeter breach network around their territory.
