Aniawyn hummed as she gently stirred a flask. With a stirring rod in one hand and a thermometer in the other, every so often she called out temperatures in a soft voice. A pair of Veilspuns, themselves intently watching a timer, then rushed to write down the temperatures and times they were taken at. Eventually, she stopped stirring and placed the flask to the side. The Veilspuns recorded the final temperature and time and then scampered, like a pair of bounding weasels, to ready the ingredients for the next trial. Aniawyn smiled softly as she watched, then sighed as she considered her project.
It was the last in a line of many, all investigating- ...Investigating what? When she woke up, she had no idea. It felt like a dream someone else had dreamt and she ended up pushing it aside. She was an alchemist, and a rather good one, in her personal opinion. It did not matter much to her what she had done in the past, she was a rather ancient Imperial after all, and things were bound to leave her mind as she aged. Her most recent dwelling place was the Dann-j'noss Clans lair in the Wispwillow Grove, where a varied collection of shops had become known locally. Here, she found a place working alongside a Pearlcatcher named Amatoxe, who was very proficient in the specific area of brewing that was required for mixing poisons. He had a free spot in his laboratory inside the building that was the centerpiece of the steady flow of visiting dragons. This teashop had grown to include a Bookshop, a Divination Tent and an Observatory, and the dragons working there welcomed her with open arms, many in awe of her once they came to know her age. It saddened her to have no grand stories to tell, but after seeing the care the dragons in the bookshop took with their scribing, she decided to try it out for herself. Aniawyn had kept research notes for as long as she could remember - which may not be that long in face of her age - and she found anecdotes of happenings around her in them. It took a long time to collect them all, but she managed to get a rough outline of where she might have been. There were notes on her children, but surely not all of them, some on their colouring, which led her to believe - alongside notes on the weather - that she had spent a great amount of time in Tangled Wood and in the Sunbeam Ruins, but she could not pin down much. In the end, she simply started a diary, noting down great happenings or merely taking note of a beautiful day. Hopefully, those memories would stay with her for as long as she lived, whether she'd had to be reminded of them or not. She would live to see the Observatory become abandoned, the bookshop closed. But she also saw the rise of the Carnival and the many visiting dragons who came to visit. At this point, she is happy to let history happen around her, and those few she calls friends. |
