An occultist, he specializes in obscure religions and superstitions. He specializes in the pre-Arcanist religions of the Starwood Strand, the ones that worship the trees rather than the dragon gods and the ones who believe--no, know, the forest to be alive. What knowledge did they have that we've lost? What secrets did they uncover? And how can he, through his strange rites and ceremonies, recover them?
Many don't understand Hieronymus's rituals and habits. But to him, blessing the lights before he turns them out brings him comfort. Drawing sigils in the air each time he prepares food gives him a certain sense of solidity, routine, that can't be found in anything else. Marking all of his items with his blood makes each of his steps land more easily.
Even Nephele, the other religion specialist in the clan, finds his ways strange and frankly unnecessary. But, the ancients did it, and so will he, because he trusts their judgement more than nearly anything else. So, this is Hieronymus: this fidgety, wide-eyed duck of a Tundra, forever staring hopelessly into the occult and trying to figure out how it can make the world clearer to him.
