Main Theme: The dark side of winter.

It hurt.

He could feel the frigid air coat his insides in a harsh layer of frost as he fought to inhale. Focus breathing. Keep moving- Keep your body temperature up! He screamed at himself internally. But the storm around him did not relent. The small, dark figure fell into the heavy snow, sinking into it as the fluffy white substance further leeched away his body heat. He vaguely felt something roll him over. It burned! The hands- they burned his icy skin where they touched. He would have struggled, had he any strength. Through glazing eyes he saw a fuzzy face. Someone familiar? He couldn't place the face before his mind shut down. The skin on his fingers and toes was turning black- frostbite. There was no saving him.

Her hands could not warm him.

______ With a choked gasp, the figure found himself in an unfamiliar place. It- It wasn't cold anymore? He looked around. The light was glaring, and as his eyes adjusted, he tried to stand. Only to flop over. Why wouldn't his legs work? He growled to himself, then slowly getting up on all fours to keep himself steady. When he felt ready, he tried to stand up on two legs once more.

And promptly fell backwards, landing harshly on limbs he did not once have. He screamed in pain, the roar echoing through the area and carrying with it an icy chill. Frost now coated the once flowered clearing. He rolled back over, remaining where he lay as he rest his head on the ground with a quiet sigh. The ground around him was frozen, a nearby puddle turned to ice. Everything else was freezing, why wasn't he? Was this some sort of irony? Had the figure cast a desperate spell on him in his last moments?

No, he realized. A spell would not transport him to another world- another life! Such things were taboo. No, he had died. His spirit, for whatever reason, had returned bearing the circumstances of his death. And he would find out why he had been cursed in this way. One way, or another.
