Biography

GLOIN

Glowing Ember

Gloin is one of the most typical Fire dragons housed by the clan — he is just as skilled with metals as he is tempestuous, and his moods run as hot as his forge. The young Coatl still considers himself an apprentice in the art of blacksmithing, but Strafe needed all the help it could get.

The orange dragon is from the Molten Scar, and can trace his ancestry back to an incredibly old chameleon Skydancer from Nature. After the original generation, most of his forbears (at least paternally) have orange hides and orange eyes. While some have gone on to find success in other flights, Gloin's Plague mother and desire to travel set him apart from his rather homebodied family.

He came to Strafe on accident, as many do. After spending a night under Birthday's care at the entrance to the lair, he decided to stay in the clan for a while. He still goes back to visit the Fire territories to learn more about his craft, as there are no master metalworkers in Strafe. When he is not in the forge or going to his homeland, he is poring over abandoned materials in the many libraries of Hewn City seeing what knowledge of metals has been lost to the ages. The material is dense and fascinating, but most of the instructions are human and incredibly dangerous and unknown to dragonkind. He exercises extreme caution when trying out new techniques, much to the relief of the dragons around him. They've all seen the clan shaken by unstable magic before, and they'd prefer not to see it again.

While his mating with Palm was rather unorthodox, it never raised eyebrows in Strafe. The two are close colleagues and good friends, and they raise their hatchlings with a respect for the innovation of the Flamecaller and the curiosity of the Lightweaver.
