Careful but strong paws tread across the spongy waste, each step slipping out of the curls of virulent tendrils. Her occasional pilgrimage had begun, that trek across this festering wasteland to her birthclan. The trip becomes easier with each repetition. The membranes fade away, withering across the formation of dust, dry winds curling it into the air, shifting it over the gruesome skeletons that lay half hidden beneath. Shimmering feathers colored like diseased blood rustle in these breezes, just as familiar to her as those of her new clan; a clan full of smiling faces and free souls. But the wind brings to her more than memory. A cry, small and frail- it sounds odd on her ears, but having heard it so many times before, she recognizes it as the Skydancer’s young. Bright red eyes sweep over the land, and find it, only barely, that bundle of white huddled into a nest hidden beneath some great skull. If it weren’t for the muted blues, she might not have seen it. A pitiful hatchling, still lying in that pile of membrane that serves as Plague’s shell, left here alone. There’s not a dragon in sight. Gentle paws cradle the young, and she’s carefully moved to the soft blue feathers on her back. The Wymwound would have to wait. |
Oh, how that pitiful hatchling did grow. A beautiful young thing, she took immediate interest in the males of the clan, Skydancers of similar plumage; and in turn, they took interest in her. The moments one would find her without a mate to court were rare- and that mate seemed to change just as much as the breezes she was raised in. Shining red eyes would captivate, and they would be smitten. Mother Kwahandya looked on, somewhat concerned, scared of broken hearts like the one she’d felt, the feeling of having loved and lost- being denied by one of the warmest hearts in the clan, wouldn’t you know it- but little Haremvin seemed to be doing just fine for herself. That is. Until the Starfall. The Ancestrals would come sweeping in on wings of fury and judgement, dissatisfied with the ways of things. There was no order in their eyes, and it must be rectified. They plucked Haremvin's star from the sky, and they told her this: "From this moment on, you are to be chaste. You are not to fancy or be fancied." She was stunned. Her heart was so free, fleeting, fickle. They were asking, nay, forcing her to deny her nature. But, it is Their will. She must follow, or she must meet the fate of the others who denied. |
