Warrior of Sunlight

When Lucian was born, he was chosen from his family to train among a elite group of fighters known as the Warriors of Sunlight. They are known across the land as being able to fight with the power of the Sun. Rumor has it that they are actually chosen personally by the Lightweaver, though this rumor has never been confirmed. Regardless of any divine power, their prowess in battle is near unmatched. When Lucian began training, he was in awe of the Warriors around him. They were few in number, but in Lucian's eyes, they could have challenged the Gods. His home lair was not far away so his parents got to visit often. Throughout the years, he grew, both in size and skill until he was deemed ready to take the oath as a Warrior. Swearing in new Warriors was always a big deal. It means that the dragon has taken decades of training, teaching, and service to reach this point. Lucian, and two of his childhood friends were ready. All of their families, and the entirety of Warrior group. Together, as one, the inductees recited the oath.
I hold my heritage and ancestors sacred and vow to defend my clan and Flight to the end.
I will sacrifice so others may live happily and safely. I fight only to restore peace. I strike down only those who seek to end that peace. I am a Warrior of Sunlight! As soon as the last word was spoken, an unnatural darkness covered the area. The Warriors dropped into a ready stance ready to deal with any threat. Solar Blades hummed with energy as three dragons came into sight. Darkness radiated off them like heat radiated off the lava from the Ashfall Wastes. Shade-Touched, no, these were Corrupted. Unlike Shadow Dragons, who merely preferred the shadows and darkness of their homeland, Shade-Touched and Corrupted Dragon were tainted with the Shade. Enemy of all life on Sornieth. Shade-Touched dragons were in control of themselves... most of the time. On occasion, the Shade within them takes over and they lash out at anything around them. Some of them manage to maintain their sanity, usually through the help of loving clanmates, however, the Corrupted were not so lucky. The Corrupted are dragons that have been completely taken over by the Shade. They possess no will of their own. They just relentlessly attack normal dragons with no regard to pain. They are also crazy strong. The Warriors launched themselves into battle first, Lucian among them, as the visitors fled. However, they trained to fight beastclans and rowdy dragons, the Corrupted were on a whole other level. They moved so fast, all the Warriors saw was a black blur before deep wounds appeared on their bodies. A quarter of the Warriors were down in a matter of seconds, and the rest were not faring much better. The remaining Warriors formed a defensive circle. Striking out when they thought a Corrupted was within range. A cry of pain reminded them about the dragons who had gathered for the ceremony. One of the Corrupted was moving through them, cutting them down. Lucian turned to cry out a warning to his parents only to see the blackened Corrupted slash through them with a sharp claws. Lucian was petrified. There was death all around him, and an elite group of Warriors only managed to land a few hits. Hits that the Shade controlled dragons merely shrugged off. |

Lucian's last comrade fell beside him. Bodies lay all around him, the black mist suffocating. The last three Corrupted approached him, and Lucian feared for his life. Thats when a blinding light filled the air. It pierced through the Shade and struck the Corrupted, who let out shrieks of pain for the first time. They tried to flee, but they could not escape the light. For Lucian, there was no pain in the light, only warm comfort. Lucian turned his eyes to the sky and was surprised to see the Lightweaver descending towards him. Lucian had no words. "My child. I am sorry for your loss" She spoke to him. "I did not come fast enough to save your friends and family." She continued as she landed on the ground. Where she touched, darkness was dispelled from the land. "My child, I need your help. I took a great risk coming here. You saw what the Shade is capable of. The other deities and I are not immune to its corruption. Our power keeps it from taking over this world, but if one of us gets taken over, it will be the end of Sornieth." She explained. "What can I do?" Lucian asked. "None of other Warriors were able to stand a chance." She smiled. "I will give you part of my power, so you may fight where I cannot." She waved a hand in the air and an set of pearled gems appeared. She offered it to Lucian. "There are many more Corrupted across the land, and even more important, there are many Shade-Touched that struggle to maintain control. Go to them. Keep them safe. Stop what happened here from ever happening again." Lucian accepted the Jewelry from his deity. And with that, the Lightweaver was off, back to protecting her realm. Lucian donned the apparel she gave him and felt an empowering warmth flow through him. He felt the Lightweaver's power and knew what he must do. However, first he turned to his comrades, and his family. For the next two to three days, he lost count, he buried his friends, their families, and his own. His resolve hardened. He couldn't let negative emotions like rage and grief to cloud his heart. It would make him an easy victim to the Shade. He donned the armaments of a Warrior of Sunlight and set out to complete the Lightweaver's wishes to protect dragonkind from the dangers of the Shade. |
