Biography
Shula is the clan's kite maker. Outside the Wind lands the job is seen as silly and strange, but to those that dwell within the Windsinger's territory it is essential. Shula is the closest thing to a priestess that the clan has.
"They're beautiful," a dragon once told her. He was just passing through the Wind territories. He had neither been born there, nor had he spent much time there before. It was clear that he saw them only as a pleasing decoration.
Shula nodded, "Yes, but even if they were ugly, they would beautiful. Like that one." She gestured at a small, ugly, ungainly looking kite that the other dragon had overlooked. "Our kites carry prayers, and dreams, and memories. We send our hearts aloft for the Windsinger to see them more clearly.
I helped a hatchling make that one for his ill sister. He worked all day on it. She is recovering, thankfully.
That one is expressing thanks for a healthy clutch. That one for a bountiful harvest. The one over there is in memory of a lost mate. Some, I do not know what they represent. Dragons will come to me and ask for tools and then toil on their own, private messages for the Windsinger.
It helps, I think, to give our feelings form and then to release them. "
The travelling dragon studied the kites for a while longer, appreciating them with new eyes. He thought of the dragons that he had known and the many miles that he had travelled. A dragon's life can be long and his had been full of joys and sorrows and memories. "Will you teach me how to make one before I go?"
Shula smiled and guided him to the materials. "Of course."
