As a young hatchling, Scrimshaw grew up as part of a small tribe in the Snowsquall Tundra. A small collection of huts huddled together amongst the fir trees; regularly battered by the icy winds rising off the sea to the East. From the age of a young pup, Scrimshaw found himself wanting more. While his family and friends seemed content with their harsh way of life, devoting themselves to the Icewarden's icy whims - he was not. Scrim turned to the sea, gazing across longingly at the mainlands and dreaming of glory and riches. One day his fortunes finally changed.
The winds had kicked the sea up into an icy storm, waves crashing and rising; breaking over the squall. A ship pulled into the cove, eager to escape the storm. It was a modest ship; no bigger than a small battered brig. The Captain, a fearsome looking Guardian, and his crew came ashore, seeking shelter in the village. They were merchants, they said, though Scrim knew that wasn't true. They motley bunch looked far too rugged and unfriendly for that. Scrimshaw only saw them as one thing; his ticket to adventure.
The next morning, when the storm had settled, Scrim snuck down to the beach before the 'merchants' had awoken. Saying a silent goodbye to his homeland, Scrim climbed aboard; sneaking below the deck and hiding in the shadows behind some barrels.
