Black Heart of the Ice
A former blood mage whose cold heart twisted in the darkest corners of the Tangled Woods as badly as the native vines. However, as her clan's practices grew ever darker, Celestine began to believe there must be a better way to live than. When she hesitated during a crucial moment of the blood ritual that would have made her a fully fledged member of the clan, ruining the ritual and creating a magical backlash that injured Celestine and several other blood mages, the clan threw her out to wander in the dark alone. Her lonely wanderings in the dark eventually led her to a small group of draconic and beastclan scholars who had come to the Tangled Wood to study the local wildlife. For some days, Celestine lurked in the shadows, observing these intruders, and she realized that in all her young life, she had never seen anything like the warm camaraderie she saw among the scholars. She grew to love watching them, listening to them joke and laugh and talk excitedly around their evening fires about the local birds and rodents and the signs they had found of a large, unknown creature living in the area. It wasn't long before she realized their unknown creature was her. At that moment, she understood that she, and not they, were unusual, but whatever they had, she wanted. Although she had no word for it, she wanted friends. And so she revealed herself to the research team who, hesitantly, brought the blood mage back to their clan once their research had concluded, turning her over to the Gale Force Militia to determine whether or not she was safe. By their own rules, they should have ended her life then and there. Blood magic above all else was abhorred by the Gale Force. But a silver tongue can weasel one out of the tightest of scrapes, if that voice is a sympathetic one. That it was the voice of an eel with a past as checkered as her own mattered for nothing. She owes her life to Stallone, a debt she hopes to repay, even knowing what the guardian is. Her life still hangs on her "good behavior", but he gave her the chance. She soon caught the attention of Eyra, a skydancer with an overdeveloped sense of morality who initially offered to be Celestine's guard, vowing to end her the instant the blood mage stepped out of line again, but the two have become friends as Celestine tried her best to follow the older dragon's example. |
