Biography

Born to a Windy Fae and a Lightcatcher in the depths of the Shrieking Wilds, Ayizan learned quickly what it meant to have different elements working both for and against each other. Her first friend was a marsh frog she found close to the nest and brought back to show her parents. Of course, they both were thrilled that their daughter was hunting already, and a little taken aback when she named the little thing and kept it as a pet. Supportive as they were, they just never quite understood Ayizan’s connection to all sides of nature, from the beautiful flowers that grew in the Everbloom Gardens to the slimy denizens of the deep Wilds waiting to snatch up an unsuspecting dragon. To Ayizan, they were all her friends, all part of the circle of life that kept the world going, and when her parents both departed to serve a higher calling, they became her family.

Living alone in the Wilds would be hard for most any dragon, especially a young one, but Ayizan had a distinct advantage over most others – she made friends easily, even outside of her species. When she helped a Serthis Potionmaster get his tail free from a trap, he decided to take her in. So began her training under Potionmaster and Alchemist alike, learning the joys of poison and the dangers of cures, memorizing by heart the plants of the deep like Dragon’s Bane and Blood Spath, learning how to read the trails left by prey and use the eyes of the predator. It was here that she began to grow into her full beauty as a Bogsneak, learned how to hone her instincts and become a warrior. But both sides knew that she could not stay forever. When the time came for the Serthis clan to split, when the younglings were pushed out of the nest, so too was Ayizan pushed from their home. She was not bitter about this, though. After all, that was the way of the world, and the only way she would keep learning.

Luckily enough, it did not take long before a new clan was forming in the area she liked to inhabit. This clan was small, just a fledgling in the jaws of the Labyrinth, and for some reason she was drawn to them. At first she just observed the clan, watched them grow, clear land, moving with more confidence from the Gardens to the Gladeveins, but the step into the Shrieking Wilds was one that some clans did not survive. When they did finally start to make the move, Ayizan could not hold herself back. She stepped out of the foliage, friendly frogs in tow, feathers that marked her a high ranking Serthis alchemist and a Witch Doctor adorning her, and waited. The first moment was tense, the clan leaders watching her before studying each other, then looking at her again. “Can you heal?”

“I can.”

“You are a native here?”

“I am.”

“Will you help us?”

“Darling, I thought you would never ask.”

That was all it took for Ayizan to find herself amid others of her kind, and though most gave her plenty of room, it wasn’t that they disliked her. She was so used to dealing with the creatures and Beast Clans that she was blunt, to the point, and though she was very kind and friendly, her ability to see through the words to what wasn’t being said was unsettling. Some said that she had The Sight, despite that being a Water strength, while others thought that she had made a pact with, well, something in order to gain her powers of observation. In truth, she just knew how to watch with the eyes of the predator, understand with the love of a mother, be open and available to anyone without leaving herself exposed to unnecessary risk. This healer by trade understood the hunters around her more than anyone else, even if they didn’t understand her.

The day that he arrived would forever be etched into her memory. A giant of a Snapper, at least in her eyes, Ace stood out against the green of the forest like the stars stood out against the black sky. There was no missing him in the wilds, no way he could blend, and she immediately was drawn to him. In fact, when they were first introduced, she thought wildly about what she could ever say to let him know how she felt. She settled on, “Your hide is the color of warning flowers, a radiant poison cool to the touch, with enough light shining to keep the whole world bright until its final moment”. As soon as she said it, she knew it was wrong. The dragons around them grimaced, looked confused or perplexed, did not understand what she said to him. Yet the Snapper himself smiled, then laughed, a hearty, heartwarming sound.

“A poisonous flower am I? Then you are the hunting gecko, the hunter and the hunted, that uses my colors to hide your own against the backdrop. I am Ace. It is refreshing to be greeted so.” Ayizan never believed in love at first sight, but after meeting Ace, she knew it could happen to some. Their courtship lasted longer than most thought it would, and their laughter helped brighten the days of those around them. Ayizan was a bit quirky, a little intimidating, but always willing to help at the drop of a dime. Ace was more approachable, warm and comforting, and always there to assist when others started becoming wary of Ayizan’s peculiar mannerisms. Together, they started a happy family, sharing nest and raising hatchlings to be a little of both of their parents. And when Ayizan said that their next destination should be the realm of the Plaguebringer, Ace immediately knew why. After so much time in the growing wilds of Nature, the clan as a whole needed the balance of the harsh Plague lands, needed to learn about the other side of the balance. So he stood by her as she explained her idea to the clan leaders, as she always knew he would.
