Halifax is both the clan's mathematician and the clan's glass-maker. These occupations are not as conflicting as they seem, according to Halifax, who specialises in describing ridiculously convoluted curves via continuous functions and then somehow perfectly reproducing them in glass. His glass is made from sand and shells found on the beaches of the Sunbeam Ruins, and he is especially adept at forming logarithmic spirals by hand. Geometry has always been his favourite, but recently he's been dabbling in dimensional mathematics - the clan eagerly awaits his first 4D glass creation.

Halifax likes long walks on the beach, preferably alone and with a large basket of seashells and a notebook on hand. He adores the mathematical perfection of shells, and how they retain their organic beauty without compromising on function. Halifax strives to embody this in his daily life, yet he's far less organised than one would expect - something about spontaneous stratification and the unpredictability of imaginary numbers. He's the types to take a quiet joy in appreciating beauty and simultaneously try to deconstruct the exact reason why something is beautiful (it's all in the maths, of course).

Pearlcatcher society is infamous for having strict castes, but not much else is known about the specifics. Halifax used to be a member of highest class of Pearlcatcher, the nobles, and indeed was worshipped as a prince of a small kingdom in his youth. This and that happened, and a few years ago a quiet revolution in his homeland was the trigger for Halifax to throw his crown at the nearest royal advisor and set off to visit some of his lower caste family members spread out across Sornieth.

Halifax met Siobhan on one of his trips to the Manor to visit his cousin Paprika, and while the pair couldn't be any more different, they've gotten along like a house on fire ever since. It turns philosophy is actually very similar to mathematics - it's all just logic. Plus, not understanding each other is a given as far as both of them are concerned. Halifax is also very interested in Umeshu and Thierry's circumstances, and the three of them are well on their way to publishing a scientific paper (On the n-Dimensional Continuum of Space-Time) as well as a self-help book (Dimension Hopping for Dummies).
