Sandrile served her clan for many years as its healer and seer, but not its Matriarch. She saw many clan Matriarchs rise and fall, some of which she trained herself, but she herself never sought the role.
It was only after the death of Aviana, the previous Matriarch and her last apprentice, that she took the title. Her clan fell into disarray at Aviana's loss, she had been taken quickly, and the last few months of her life were dictated by tragedy. The clan turned to Sandrile for guidance and hope in the aftermath. When the clan-wide grief began to settle, Sandrile said she would name a new Matriarch, but the clan had decided: it would be her. Sandrile had led them all through this dark time, and it seemed an injustice for her not to lead them after.
Sandrile followed the wishes of the clan and became their Matriarch, for no other dragon would accept the role, had she offered. She is trusted and beloved by the dragons, and she fears only the thought of ever failing them.
