??? l etymologist l apiarist l light mage l creator of light l peaceful l Even for a clan that prides itself on it's shadowy element, few can survive in total darkness. The most devout followers of the Shadowbinder readily admit, for there to be any sort of life there must be a balance of light and dark - although most in the Tangle Wood naturally prefer the scales to be tipped more to their favor. But plants cannot grow without the sun's golden light, animals shrivel up without its life-giving warmth. And, sometimes, when the balance is thrown askew by elemental magics and plunged into too much suffocating darkness, light is needed to restore balance. The faint glow of fungi and crackling firelight can only do so much, and so it is ASDFGHJKL who acts as the counterweight. He breathes life into delicate glass baubles, so they can be strung up on wires from the trees to light the forest. He creates lanterns of gold and wisps of sunlight in a world where there is none to be found from the sky. He mainly stays in the gardens, walking slowly under the trees that reach to his lights hanging above. Meandering past bushes with fruits ripening in the warmth he provides, leaves thirstily drinking in his baubles of light. Or he'll tend to his bees, dark wooden hives humming with activity and slides dripping with warm honey. They were surprisingly hard to get delivered to the Tangled Wood, the brilliant yellow honey bees. But it was worth it, they fill the gardens with new life and fresh fruit and the clan kitchens with honey and crafters with beeswax. He'd always been fascinated by insects, even studied them back in one of the shining universities of the Sunbeam Ruins. It was the insects that brought him here, the strange eerily beautiful ones that glowed with pale blue light so unlike what he grew up familiar with. It was originally only a research trip, really. Only a few months in the Wispwillow Grove, at most. But monthes turned to seasons turned to years, and he found himself growing accustomed to the murk. A scholarly dragon, although quiet and gentle his extensive education left asdfghjkl somewhat vain. It was hard not to be - these shadow dragons needed him, a light mage, to help them survive in their own dark hovel. But as time slipped by, his superiority faded. Dragons that could barely write were the kindest he had met, while some of the bravest he had ever known were totally illiterate. And, despite himself, ASDFGHJK found himself falling into a family, a world away from his snobbish peers in the Sunbeam Ruins. They wanted him to give them balance, give them light. But slowly he began to notice this strange clan was giving him a sense of light and warmth, one no magic of the Lightweaver could ever produce. |
