______ Umbranoel syntyi kuopukseksi Varjometsää asuttaneeseen ylhäisösukuun. Kun tyttö oli vasta lapsi, tämän suku joutui osaksi väkivaltaisia kahnauksia, joita Varjojenkylväjä oli tuonut mukanaan. Kaunis Varjometsä muuttui noiden riitojen seurauksesta Vaivaispuustoksi, jossa vain vahvin saattoi selvitä. Umbranoelin pieni suku ei ollut tottunut taistelemaan ja armotta nämä hävisivät. Osa klaanista kuoli säälimättömästi kamppailun tuomissa mellakoissa ja osa, mukaan lukien Umbranoelin vanhemmat Jewl ja Cinnamon, pääsivät pakoon, mutta perhe joutui erilleen.


______ Umbranoel haki turvapaikkaa Lordi Machaon ja Lady Chouchoun hovista, jossa Chouchou palautti tytölle tämän arvonimen, mutta kotiin tämä ei enää koskaan voinut palata. Retki olisi saattanut osoittautua kohtalokkaaksi, sillä tytön henkeä oli jo monesti yritetty viedä erilaisin häikäilemättömin keinoin. Jopa niin, että Lordi Machaon lähin ystävä, Damien koki tarpeelliseksi ottaa yhteyttä vesiheimojuuriinsa ja tätä kautta hankkia käsiinsä Mystiquen taikavoimia omaavan amuletin. Salaperäisen korun väitettiin alkavan hohtaa, jos sen haltija oli vaarassa.


______ Lady Umbranoel asettui Lordi Machaon ja Lady Chouchoun hoviin. Vaikkei Tähdenlennon saariryhmä aluksi viehättänyt tyttöä, löysi tämä lohtua Tähtien metsästä, joka muistutti kotia, ennen kuin se oli tuhoutunut. Eläinrakkaana lohikäärmeenä erityisesti yhdistyneiden hovien lemmikit auttoivat tytön koti-ikävää ja usein tämä nähtiin ulkoiluttamassa ja hankkimassa niille ruokaa. Umbranoelista kehkeytyi vähitellen mestari virittämään ansoja pienriistalle. Sama harrastus toi tämän yhteen Macaretton kanssa, joka oli myös tottunut ympärillä pörrääviin lemmikkeihin.
