Biography

Caribbea dragons live on the cliffs separating the Sea of a Thousand Currents from The Shifting Expanse. They are adopted children of the Stormcatcher, dragons born into Water, or rarely other flights, who have gotten lost in storms or high winds and been blown to the Stormcatcher's realm. They have taken on the color of the cliffs - broad white wings and bellies - and waters, and dug their lairs into the crumbling chalks, far above the turbulent waters of the Tsunami Flats.

Although they have taken many of the characteristics of their adopted Flight, most bear marks of the flights that they or their ancestors came from. For example, while they have Lightning's facility and fascination with electricity, many often feel inclined to mystic, even heretical methods of electrical generation, using wind, water, and even the sun to create bizarre "false lightnings". Far from the Lightning Farm, they use these "false lightnings" to power strange machines, whirling spirals of gears and pullies, designed according to some unknowable specification - some ancient call rising up from the sea, instinct and magic made manifest. Each Caribbea dragon has their own Device, one which they guard jealously despite their creation's apparent uselessness, and every so often, when the tides are right and the wind is blowing out across the sea, some strange instinct calls to them and they gather on the clifftops, devices fitting together despite the lack of any design, and sing into the wind to the clicking of the gears.

Most Caribbea dragons are affable - they are outcasts, yes, but they tend to ignore any but the most direct of rejections, content in the company of their kin and their own confidence in having, if not the Stormcatcher's affections, at least his approval. They are fairly harmless, as dragons go, not inclined to savage attacks or aggression - except in the defense of their Device. When it is threatened, or gods forbid damaged, they can fly into a hostile rage, and woe the dragon who destroys a Device - called by an unknown power, all the Caribbea in range will fly up and attack the destroyer until they have been driven to exhaustion or killed, then aggressively defend the Deviceless dragon until it has rebuilt. The rebuilt Device is always unlike the old one in every way, but it will, next time instinct calls, fit as perfectly in a new spot in the Grand Device as the old one fit in it's spot.
