Atalanta

Fleet-footed Atalanta, swift of wing and claw, feeds her chosen clan with the spoils of her adventures throughout Sornieth. A warrior, she wins battles with superior speed and reflexes. She adventures alongside Rose and Jade, whom she considers two of her best friends—though they don’t always understand her, or she them.

Although distantly aware that others think of her as a flicker of mental and physical speed, like a tongue of flame that darts between ideas as well as places, she thinks of herself as the dragon who belongs nowhere—and therefore everywhere. As a scholar, a dreamer, and a keeper of heritages, she understood as a young dragon that she would find few peers who shared her interests in the Ashfall Waste. With her family’s blessing, she made the voyage to Starwood, where she found a new family of scholars and artists—many of whom, like her, hail from other flights, but knew they belonged in the Starfall Isles. Still, she feels homesick more days than not. Her poetry tells the story of the family and traditions she left behind.

Tolerating, even appreciating, water constitutes another reason she thinks of herself as alienated or dislocated from the world. After a grueling battle in an underground waterway, she made peace with a respected former adversary—a gray river flight who answers to Pomme.
