Biography
Jonathan Bowater "Jaw-na-th-an" | Oc Dragon | Owl caretaker | (see author's note at the bottom of bio before reading) "Jonathan Bowater? out on the town??? Balderdash." 𝔍onathan is the son of a wealthy businessman whom made his fortune on handmade fine pocket watches. Thus, Jonathan was raised in a mansion just outside of the township. When he was about 5 or 6, his mother died, and left his father extremely depressed and despondent. After that, he didn't let jonathan out much , and seeing as Jonathan was his only son, he taught him the art of making pocket watches - well, forced it on him, really. He was obsessed with the idea of Jonathan taking over for him when he should die. In addition to this, his father hired a private tutor to live with them so Jonathan would be well educated. While that doesn't sound too fun, Jonathan quite enjoyed certain subjects so he could learn about the world he wasn't allowed out into much. He particularly enjoyed biology and learning about its classification systems- the amount of living things outside his window fascinated him, and he had a certain tenderness for animals and living things to begin with. One day, when he was out in the horse barn behind their mansion visiting with his father's horses, he noticed a pair of bright yellow eyes peering at him from the rafters. Though a bit frightened, he was curious, and he stepped closer, calling gently. |

𝔚hen it finally stepped out into a ray of light shining through the wooden slat roof, he saw that it was a small screech owl- two, in fact. And they were brooding over a nest as well. Elated by his discovery, Jonathan quickly ran inside, grabbed his tutor and brought him back out to the barn to inspect what he had found. The tutor was delighted with Jonathan's find, and decided that it'd be a good side project for him to work on in Biology. So Jonathan, with little else to do for fun, threw himself into the project, and ended up forming a strong passion for the birds- and even learned to tame them, and help raise their clutches. As time went by, his love for owls only grew, and his desire to take over the family business, something his father had tried so desperately to instill in him, steadily diminished. He began to loathe the idea of his father's business- it was beginning to take over his life. His father had even went as far as to set him up to marry one of his business colleague's daughters. However, a few months before the wedding, his father passed away after suffering a series of strokes (most likely due to alcoholism that took ahold of him after his wife had died). Though Jonathan wanted to fulfill his late father's wishes, he just couldn't bring himself to do it- he couldn't marry someone who was nothing more to him than an occasional childhood friend. So he called it off- it was a mutual agreement between he and his fiancé-no-more. However, the woman's father was furious, and withdrew all contact with Jonathan and his estate thereafter. Jonathan didn't mind this much- as he didn't particularly like his father's colleague to begin with, but he was now completely alone- with nothing but a mansion, his money, and a couple of owls. |

ℌis solitary childhood hadn't prepared him for a life outside of it, so he stayed put. For a time, the only people he held any contact with was a kind old farmer's wife who lived down the block- having never had a son, her heart went out to him, and she made sure Jonathan took care of himself, insisting his hair stay cut, his stomach nourished, and his suits mended. In addition, she helped him grow a garden, so he wouldn't have to live on bland porridge and mutton. Once he had somewhat gotten back on his feet, he again turned his interest to his owls. Unrestrained by his late father's regime, he freely poured himself into his passion for the birds, and wound up collecting many more- he sold most his father's prized horses, save for his favorite mare, and converted a large portion of the family's old barn into a sort of aviary for his owls. For many years, this was his life. Though he was lonely, he'd learned not to mind it much, and overall, he was pretty content. However, the townsfolk wondered about him- a young man who'd reached hermit status so quickly- and many rumors were spread. Some say the real reason his father died was that he killed Jonathan, and committed suicide; leading to the speculation that Jonathan's ghost haunted the estate (though anyone who actually attended his father's funeral knew better). Others claim that he's a madman experimenting on owls, and that he's just waiting for the unsuspecting child to walk up to his door, and snatch them. Think of any rumors people spread about hermits and the like, and there's probably a version involving Jonathan. But he is none of those things- not in the least. He's just a gentle, lonely young man with a love of nature, biology, and most of all, Owls.
