Mallory is known as the exalter, the dragon that accompanies Derra the crazed dragon trader on trips to the Lightweaver Temples and leads the dragons that are to be exalted to their new home. She takes her role seriously, and always tells the dragons of Clan Pineapple that if they are ever lost in search of meaning for their lives, they ought to consider service to the Lightweaver. She herself dreams of meeting Glittermom in person, but because of the importance of her duty to Clan Pineapple, may never be able to do so. Instead, she lives vicariously through her exaltees, taking pride in knowing that they will serve her directly while she serves her in this more distant way.
Given her love for Glittermom, few can believe that Mallory actually lived a large portion of her life at Clan Dormiveglia, a shadow flight clan. Mallory herself refuses to discuss her time "in the darkness," as she puts it, not even when asked about her many former mates or her children. Only once, in a very particular mood, was she caught looking at falling snow and saying, "I wonder what Enoch is doing."

Mallory is known for her no-nonsense personality and demanding nature. She expects perfection from those around her and stands her ground. The dragons of Clan Pineapple have accommodated her many occasionally unreasonable desires, recognizing that after her difficult past, Mallory will need time and comfort in order to settle down.The only one who doesn't buy it is Nightmare, who knows for a fact that Mallory is leading a Glittermom-obsessed cult. Nightmare is terrified that they will attempt to exalt her.

Unknown to most, Mallory leads "The Order of the Pineapple," a secret cult devoted to converting all dragons to the way of the Lightweaver. The cult members (mostly pearlcatchers) believe that if Glittermom conquers the other ten Flights, she will attain enough power to banish the Shade. They do everything in their power to support Glittermom in the pursuit of the Eternal Dominance of Light.

While Mallory has successfully expanded her cult and has had plenty of early success, she faces opposition from many. First, Dellinger seems to have become suspicious of the existence of a cult due to the massive number of pearlcatcher processions. Secondly, there are rumors of spies among the cult members. And finally, there is Nightmare, whispering rumors of the cult in the ears of everyone who is willing to listen. If only she could convert Nightmare, the rest would be easy. If only the heroic Shadow-conqueror Nightmare wasn't terrified of her.

Mallory finds it hard to believe that a pearlcatcher who is so terrified of her own shadow could be a hero. Then again, Mallory suspects she would be a little more terrified too, if there was always a giant imperial named Subconscious standing in her shadow.
