Thalassa
---
Voice of Hearts, Thalassa of the First and Honoured Mystic of Hearts

Her Story
She stared into the surface of her pearl as though she could see through it into another world. A single clawed blue finger swept across the pearl every few seconds. She tried to imagine seeing shapes and shadows, futures and fortunes, inside the cloudy surface; anything to avoid seeing the scene in front of her.

Ellone had tried, really tried, to save her half-siblings’ mother. Tried to quiet her rustling. Tried to warn her when the Father caught on. Tried to slow his anger. Tried to get her to recant. Tried to talk his punishment down, but no bat of her Lightning blue eyes or whispered cautions had prevented this.

The small fae was shivering violently, both wings sliced to glimmering shreds. She looked strangely thin as every expressive fan around her face was shredded as well and the red of her blood stood out starkly against the silvers and platinums of her scaled skin. She did not speak, not daring to defend herself if it meant dooming her children. Her chlidren, mostly fae like her, but a few Spirals like the Father, were uncharacteristically still.

Ellone sat beside the Father looking deep into her empty pearl, as three of her half-brothers returned from the hatching grounds. Each carried an egg. The fae did not raise her head, and the Father smashed the eggs himself. Every one of his children and mates stood silent. Ellone saw the fae’s shaking stop and the Father smile as he lifted himself into the air and turned from the last egg. Bloodied slime dripped from each of his six small wings and an unformed mass, broken and unidentifiable, on the ground were all that remained of the growing creature, another of her half-siblings.

The Father landed in front of the fae on his front two feet and sneered something low beside her head as his other feet landed behind her and his body wrapped around her small one in coils of striped blue muscle. The fae coughed, a gentle sound interrupting the prevalent silence. She coughed again. The crowd around them, even the spirals, were still. Completely still. Most out of respect for the Father, but many in tribute to their mother. Tribute to the Fae who died as they watched.

The Father gave a speech then, short and succinct. He looked to his oldest daughter as she sat beside his place of honour. She schooled her features to reflect the disappointment and distress he spoke of. She knew he didn’t feel it, his eyes sparked with anger and his movements were harsh as he twined in the air. Others looked to as well, grief and true distress filling their eyes.

Ellone served as the Father’s voice, he was distant in the next days, and absent when a visitor arrived, a wanderer far from home. The pearlcatcher was ushered into her presence as soon as he arrived and Ellone looked down upon him from a high seat, one claw drawing itself absently across her pearl. He seemed in turmoil but with no clear reason to be there.

“Speak, friend, and tell us why you have come,” Ellone said. Two of her larger brothers stood to either side of the visitor. He stared up at her, as though she was the last creature he had expected to see. She thought him handsomer than any dragon she’d ever seen, though the clan had very few visitors. His hide was an iridescent emerald and his wings a startling patterned blue.

“I’ve come to help you.” But he sounded surprised.

“And what would the Father need of you?”

“The Stormcatcher? No, I have come to help you.” Ellone’s brothers bristled. The pearlcatcher met her eyes and she felt electricity tickle at her neck. She couldn’t help but note his deep Water eyes.

“He is but a distant deity,” she said harshly. “The Father is our protector and guardian. What need could he have of you.”

“The father is your clan’s leader?”

“We are a family. He is the Father, yes.” The pearlcatcher glanced down at the hazy pearl at her side. His eyes darkened. He said nothing but it seemed to her he began a low hum. “If you are here to help, speak. What aid do you offer that the Father does not give us already.”

“I have not come for your clan,” he said after a long moment of silence. “Nor for your father. I have come to help you.”

“For… for me? I… I have no need of your help.”

“Is there nothing I could do for you?”

“The Father provides.” Her brothers nodded acrimoniously.

“I’ve seen you,” he said slowly. “In my pearl. There is something you need that only I can provide.”

She made her best attempt to look haughty. “And what is that?”

“I haven’t the faintest clue.” He met her eyes with something like amusement. “You, however, know exactly why I’m here.”

She scratched her shining, clouded pearl once, her claw shaky. When she spoke she addressed her brothers. “I don’t know what form of trickery this is, but it will have to wait for Father.”

With respectful nods of their heads and smug smiles her brothers pinned the dragon’s wings, lifted him off his feet, and carried him away.

“Nereus,” he called. “And it’s a pleasure to meet you Thalassa.”

Ellone frowned, that wasn’t her name, but it seemed she had just learned his.

Bio/Lore to include/come back to: Thalassa is a gentle, quiet soul with a dark past that haunts her. She has very powerful magical gifts, namely the gift of prophecy. As soon as her talents as a valuable, reliable seer were discovered her birth clan manipulated her, mistreated her and misused her abilities in ways that brought her great grief and pain. Nereus helped her to escape, but due to the circumstances, she knows that her previous family will never stop hunting for her. She changed her name and masquerades with the protection of this clan's first family as a water dragon with only minor talents. Now her mate, Nereus takes credit for her dangerous and accurate prophesies, warnings and knowledge. The truth about their situation is known only to the first family and those closest to Thalassa and Nereus, and the truth about who she really is, and who really hunts her, is known to even fewer. It is a jealously guarded secret by the entire clan, because now it means not only her safety but the safety of them all and the powerful magic that they protect. Thalassa is quiet and difficult to get to know, but she is generous in spirit and her empathy leaves her in pain with every connection and friend that she makes.
Selene and Phoenix are their grandchildren (by Nitrous and Lysirra respectively)
