Blue Fire

Named for one of her lucky colors and for the element of the year she was born in, Lanhuo was the last one to hatch out of her egg. Her two sisters came out as twins, making her the odd one out of the bunch.

Like many of the dragons in Long Jia, her parents were suspicious of how their daughter came out. Why did she come out like that? Was this a good omen, or a bad one? Unsure of how to interpret it, they took her to the clan's clairvoyant mage, Raven, the one many go to for horoscopes and interpretations.

Lanhuo's parents gave her over to the mage to have her looked over. Afterwards, the mage came back with Lanhuo, the hatchling waddling back to her mother. Raven looked up at the both of the parents, saying:

"Ambitious, adventurous, but irritable, like all hatchlings born during this year, that is what yours is going to be. She will be clever and intelligent, like the animal representing this year, but also very naughty." The mage watched as Lanhuo batted at her mother's armor before continuing. "I saw her appearance as not necessarily a bad thing. Though her coloring is reddish, her gold-like chest and blue eyes will surely counteract that." Both of Lanhuo's parents sighed in relief, as that was their main concern.

"However," continued the mage, "I did see something as I was looking over her." Lanhuo's parents focused on the mage. "I saw her being a hatchery guard, like the both of you, but not for Long Jia, no, for another group of dragons." Raven closed her eyes, her face twisting into one of concentration. "Yes, yes...they are a kingdom that resides in the darkest place of the light...and she will help protect their hatchlings from...from..." The mage opened her eyes and looked up at the two Imperials. "I'm sorry, but that part is foggy." And then she promptly left.

Both of Lanhuo's parents looked down at their odd hatchling, who was still batting at her mother's armor. Her sisters waddled over, and the three of them began to play-fight. Their Lanhuo, a future hatchery guard, to help to protect another group of dragons' hatchlings. Whatever it was she was to protect the hatchlings from, they were not sure, but only hoped that it would not result in the loss of their special daughter.
