Biography
Deep in the heart of Windhover Mesa, in the elaborately-carved cave that served as his chambers, Sarnath brooded over a pile of maps, intercepted messages, and stratagems. The ancient Mirror dragon, leader of the Windhover Clan, sighed: The shadow war against his rival Erebus was not going well. Erebus' crazed experiments, carried out in the dark caverns below Windhover Mesa, had gotten ever-more twisted and unnatural. The traps Erebus had laid were more cunning, now, and his minions had gotten bolder. Sarnath picked up a vial of goo stolen from one of Erebus' cauldrons, and peered meditatively into its glowing depths. He needed a new weapon--something, or someone, strong, and bold, and clever.
A knock at the door startled Sarnath out of his reverie. An armored Coatl, its feathers roiling with the illusion of stormclouds, poked its head in. "Sorry to disturb you, Lord," it hummed, "but I have the new Interns ready to receive your blessing." Sarnath beckoned him in, and the Coatl obeyed, cradling an egg in each front paw.
Sarnath raised two bony eyebrows at the sight. The Coatl stammered, "I know we normally wait until they're hatched to assign them Intern status, Lord, but these eggs were conceived and laid in the Intern Barracks. They are the offspring of a lowly Intern and of Actias--you know, the one who's volunteered to be exalted to the Boss later this month."
Ah, Actias. To volunteer for exaltation is no small show of loyalty--a great sacrifice indeed. Sarnath would miss him. He took one of the eggs, and muttered ancient words of blessing. Sarnath took the other egg--and a thought struck him. The crackling, glowing center of this egg held promise, especially with Actias as a father. Sarnath reached for the vial of goo from Erebus' lair, and began rifling through his ancient scrolls, searching for spells that would enhance strength, and grant bravery. "You can take the other egg back to the barracks," he told the Coatl. "I have plans for this one."
When Sarnath presented the new hatchling, Kadatheron, to the clan, he was the talk of the town for quite some time. His unusual appearance and sparkling scales were the subject of much admiration--and as he grew, the clan began to adore Kadatheron's personality as well. He proved to be brave and daring, of course, but also fiercely caring and loyal, almost to a fault. The clan called him "princely," much to Kuranes' chagrin.
Kadatheron currently serves as Sarnath's personal bodyguard, and leads the charge on any incursions into Erebus' domain. He might not be the wisest or most cunning of the Windhovers, but none can compete with his courage, sense of morality, and lack of tolerance for injustice.
