The Sorceress
|
Residing in a small cottage outside the borders of the Aespana kingdom, Morgana is arguably one of the most powerful sorcerers to be found in all of Sorneith. The elderly nocturne, admittedly looking rather odd with her bright-blue robes, was born and raised by some of the most magically-talented dragons in all the world, and her skills show it. However, only very few have actually seen the sorceress in action. For most of her days, she stays hidden away in the Sylvin Forest, either tucked away in her tree-bound cottage, or out and about collecting various stones and herbs for her potions and tonics. Many dragons from far away have come seeking her aid, and she is more than willing to grant it. Most of her potions, she says, are easier to make than a loaf of bread would be. Once in a while, a wealthy merchant or two would come by and purchase a multitude of her magickal crafts, as they tend to fetch a handsome sum of treasure among dragons in distant kingdoms. When she isn't in her forest homeland, Morgana meets with other sorcerers and witches to discuss current events or some new magicks. her Coven, as she calls it, consists of the nature mage Tulkas, the bog witch Leira, and the newest member, a shadowy enchantress named Ceridwyn. Often, the Coven will consult one another for advice or guidance, or to share any valuable information they might have acquired. Together, the group is a force to be reckoned with, and most dragons know that picking a fight with any mage who knows Morgana is likely to end very badly for them. Even the toughest fighter knows they stand no chance against the elderly nocturne. Her power shines through her scales, bright blue light that radiates some kind of mystical energy. Leira in particular is curious of where Morgana acquired such powers, (Leira, being the youngest, is chock-full of curiosity) but has never gotten a straight answer from Morgana. "With faith in our Gods, many things are possible. Once you shed the idea of 'impossible', nothing will limit you." |

As of late, the Coven has been worried. Leira spoke nonstop about news she had heard from her brother: something is wrong in Aespana. The once-great kingdom has started to collapse in on itself. Even Ceridwyn, the most reserved of the group, agreed. Things were changing. Nonetheless, Morgana had her doubts. That was, until she was met one day by the Aespan princess herself, shivering in torn silk robes, drenched with rainwater, and face streaked with tears. Morgana had never cared for the royal family, in fact, she despised the way they sat on their velvet cushions, counting their coins while there were penniless dragons sleeping on the streets. But she couldn't turn away the young dragoness, and let her seek shelter in her cottage. Their relationship had a rough start. The princess, Sultana, was disgusted by what seemed like nature itself. She couldn't bear to get even the slightest bit of dirt on her shining silver scales, and spent what seemed like hours on end preening her feathered wings. It went on for weeks. That was, until Morgana finally snapped. The two had an arguing match that lasted what seemed like forever. Sultana was upset that she, the Aespan princess, was being treated like some commoner. Morgana on the other hand, was furious that Sultana was not only being inconsiderate of her generosity, but was so ignorant and unwilling to change her mindset. The sorceress was just about ready to throw Sultana out of her house when the skydancer princess broke down in tears. She had been through too much. It took a while, but the two managed to reconcile. Sultana, finally realizing how idiotic she had been, apologized to the sorceress and asked for her guidance, a wish that Morgana granted. Sultana became the nocturne's apprentice, and has learned much since then. Morgana, on the other hand, has learned much more about the state of Aespana. And she can't help but notice that as the mind of her apprentice grows brighter, the horizon above Aespana grows forever darker. She can only hope that things aren't quite as bad as she fears they are. |
