Biography
Kataniya rolled out of her egg with a snort and tumbled right into the huge leg of a watching dragon. Instantly the leg moved away followed by a snort of disgust. The lights were all too bright and Kataniya was very confused. She looked to her side and had to squint to observe another dragonling that was more than three times her size and with scales that nearly blinded her from their reflection. She curiously looked down at her own scales which were far more easy to observe. They looked like a metal that was severely lacking polishing. While she was still looking down she was suddenly scooped up and rushed out of the bright room. The further from that room she got the warmer it got until it became close to unbearable for the dragonling to handle.
She was dropped onto a warm steel table right in front of a raging fire that she would soon learn was the furnace. A hunched over dragon tinkered in the corner, slamming a huge hammer down on a piece of metal, creating sparks. Kataniya heard the impatient huff as the dragon that loomed behind her waited to get the attention of the dragon in front of her. The other dragon finally slowly turned. Kataniya was surprised, unlike all the other bright scaled dragons, this one was easy on the eyes to look at and she was able to admire his face.
"How may I be of use to you milord," the dragon said dryly, his eyes only barely glancing at her before they went back to the dragon that stood behind her. He wiped his claws on a dark colored cloth that was already covered with soot. She felt the table she sat on rumble as the other dragon practically roared out his response.
"Make this thing more presentable so I may actually acknowledge her as my kin," the dragon, whom she now knew was her father, growled back in response. The other dragon stared hard at him before looking down at Kataniya.
"She is beautiful, what seems to be the problem?" This set that dragon behind her off and he bellowed out a roar, scaring Kataniya so badly she scampered forward and would have fallen off the table if the soot covered dragon hadn't caught her. She trembled into his chest and shut her eyes tightly.
"Of course a pearl catcher like you would never understand what it is like to have to present a runt, let alone with one whose scales don't shine. I don't know why we even bother keeping you here but that isn't my place to say. Clean her up and bring her back to me. I don't care what you have to do but I want her to shine before you are through with her." With that the father whipped around and left while the soot covered dragon cradled Kataniya.
"I think you are perfect just the way you are lil one," he replied.
Kataniya was raised in the forge, away from the high class dragons she had been born into. Her mentor cared for her and taught her his craft and soon she was able to create nearly all he could and more.
Though she wished she could become dragon her mentor was, she stayed true to the crafty side of the dragon she was and was soon tinkering and creating things of her own. She was also extremely curious and always trying to learn new things.
Not long after she was close to full grown that her mentor had to sit down and have a talk with her, telling her that she was too good for this place, encouraging her to go and see the world herself. She pleaded for him to join her but he merely shook his head and smiled grimly. This was his home, whether he liked it or not but it did not have to be hers. With a final prodding he pushed her to take off and leave the court and search for a clan that could see the greatness inside her like he had.
