Even as a pint-sized, fluff-riddled dragon barely past his mother’s ankles, Braylon knew he wanted to protect the creatures he saw skittering around outside his family’s nest. Diseases clogged up their fur, and crater dust cast smoggy films over their eyes. The Wyrmwound was hardly a place for any dragon at all to settle, but the various birds and rodents crawling about had it even worse. Braylon would watch them in nauseous horror until he was finally old enough to do some wandering of his own along the crater’s rim, and do something to help.

That was when it started, then—he’d find a lemming or pocket mouse with quivering whiskers beneath pebbles and grit, far too close to the sizzling ferment of fire, and tuck it away between his paws, herding it to the safety of his home. He had an idea to construct barriers from nearby boulders, and he built a fence to guard his new pets from harm. They began to rely on him, trust him—and he vowed to one day bring them somewhere they could flourish.

Years sauntered by, and Braylon realized with growing apprehension that his now-numerous animals were crowding into each other’s spaces, huddling against the burning air even under the safety of their rocky protection. He decided they needed a new home, a place of sun-shimmer and open spaces, lush greens and playful skies. He wondered if his animals would believe in him enough to trust him over miles and mountains, but they always followed his poise and sway.

Braylon’s plan was to take on the Tangled Wood, cross the bends and curves of the Drifwood Drag to rest in the highest regions of the Shadowbinder’s bounty. He could tell by the shining tremors in his herd’s eyes they were afraid, but under his the care and direction of his wings, they scuttled along, hardly missing a step. They scaled peaks, danced their way through the magical twinkles of the Wispwillow Grove, and descended to what would become their permanent home: down in the protected, shadowy thorns of the Foxfire Bramble.

These days, Braylon builds his fields far off into the melting sunsets, and his creatures roam and play and tussle inside a web of protective branbles instead of dangerous earthy slivers, finding new adventures amidst the starry skies. But they never wander too far under his commanding watch—they always return to their gentle rancher before dawn cracks its shell.

Braylon has now found his new Clan only recently, when he discovered a little hatchling hiding from wolves of all things because she could not get her magic to work as needed. Sharbashta turned out to be the daughter of his new Clan's founder, so he was welcomed to stay. Now he has taken up the mantle of a sage teaching the Clan what he knows of nature and nature's special magics. The new habitat for his pets is going slow though, despite some others helping him every now and then. Not much room to build anything on steep mountain cliffs, but he already has a workable idea he just needs to find some more time for.

A while ago, he found out he has become involved in a love ritual gone wrong, which turned out to also be a fertility ritual - he and the mother of the clutch they produced got accidentally caught in it because they were in the next cave. Now he has offspring he is proud of, but the whole affair still makes him uneasy.
