"Did you touch them Did you hold them Did they follow you to town? They make me feel I'm falling down They make me feel I'm falling down Was there one you saw too clearly Did they seem too real to you? They were kids that I once knew They were kids that I once knew"

Tahi and Kamehla were inseparable back in the wind territory. Though born to different parents in different territories, there were light-hearted rumors of the boys being twins separated at birth. They explored the vast wind territory in relative safety. As long as they stayed in the territory, Kamehla's father had promised, that they would be safe. And oh how they tried to quell their adventurous spirit in trade for safety. But one day, for a reason Tahi no longer remembers, they stepped beyond the boundaries. |
It had started out well enough. Tahi had flown Kamehla to a meadow outside the territory. Unfortunately, there was an ambush of Longnecks waiting for them. They were collecting Imperial hatchlings, and dragged them back to their camp. At first Tahi didn't understand why, and why they refused to feed him, but it all became clear when he saw the pit. They were trying to make a baby emperor. A prince. One by one Imperial hatchlings were thrown into the pit to join their brethren, and each night Tahi wondered if he would be next. |
It was only thanks to Kamehla that he escaped. Kamehla risked his live to bring Tahi food, since the Longneck tribe wouldn't let the imperial hatchlings hunt for themselves. It was Kamehla who fed him, and then freed him so he could escape. They fled under the cover of night as the emperor broke free. Unfortunately, it caught up to them. Tahi told Kamehla to run, but he knew they couldn't escape together. So he turned and fought the emperor. He thought that would be the end of it, but he was wrong. So wrong. |
He died that day, but for whatever reason, his spirit never passed on. Maybe the Lightweaver did not accept him after becoming an abomination. Maybe he had unfinished business. Nevertheless, as his body ravaged the light territory, his spirit wandered, looking for Kamehla. For his parents. For anyone who could make him go away. While he traveled in his new form, he learned how to make himself corporeal briefly. How to speak. It was almost like life, except he no longer felt the grass beneath his paws, or the sunshine, or any warmth at all. It was a quiet cold, and so so lonely. |
He didn't know how long he had wandered before he found a scrap of his old friend. He never slept, and never interacted with another dragon, and the days blurred heavily. He got the information from a nature scout, who was warning another territory about a supposed emperor that she'd heard from a child who sounded remarkably like his old friend. He decided to follow the scout from then on, so she could lead her back to the dragon he missed so terribly. |
Kamehla is his best friend. They were always inseparable as children, and now that Tahi has died, he just wants to see him before he finally passes on. |
Beire is the nature scout who told him where to find his friend. He followed Beire to the nature territory in order to complete his dying wish. |
Ofiara currently has hold over the emperor's soul, but her pull over him is weak at best. He refuses to die or succumb so easily. The witch largely leaves him be. |
Kyani is his friend. She is currently researching the reason why he finds it impossible to pass on. They both believe it is because the emperor is still at large. |
