- suffers from a variety of genetic dysfunctions. perhaps most noticably, his scales are extremely elastic, fragile, and thin, and their irregular growth means they're both prone to forming callus-like plates of overgrown tissue and spreading so thinly that minor friction can rupture the epithelial layer. while a pale, nearly transparent hue individually, his skin appears white where the scales are thicker, the red patches being the result of blood pooling underneath.
- adding to the problem is a lack of clotting factors that lead to excessive and easily provoked bleeding. luckily for his survival and that of his descendants, the rate at which he replenishes blood and regenerates wounds is significantly faster than normal (though this comes with an extremely high metabolism). however, this serves in part as a defensive adaptation- his blood is strongly acidic and corrodes through feather and scale alike. while this rarely causes anything more than minor burns on its own, the risk of infection from open wounds is the real danger.
