Popocatepetl hummed to himself, stirring the large pot on the stove with one paw, waving the other at the fire crackling underneath to bolster it with a small puff of wind. The kitchen was running smoothly today, like all days under his control. Spearmint trotted past him, and large hunk of meat in his claws. Biscotti’s tail could be seen sticking out of the pantry, swishing back and forth. Everyone in the kitchen was busy, getting all manner of treats and goodies ready for the Starfall Celebration. Every once in awhile Dasher would pop his head in to see how things were going, often stealing a pastry or

two from Biscotti, who was only too happy to have his baking enjoyed. Things were good.

Until Ixtaccihuatl burst in anyways.

“Popo!” She cried, beaming widely, “Popo!” Her wings were dripping some sort of green goo, unfortunately not an uncommon occurrence, especially when she trailed it across his clean kitchen. Spearmint jumped out of the way of his mate as she barreled her way towards him, a comically sight as the imperial avoided the relatively tiny coatl. Ixta’s earrings jangled against her goggles as she approached, her eyes wild as she shoved them up to her forehead.

“You’re tracking your latest experiment all over my kitchen.” Popo objected dully. “Popo!” Ixta sing-songed, “There’s someone I want you to me~et!” Popo sighed, grabbing a cloth to wipe his paws, “Alright. Could this happen -not in my kitchen?” “Nope!” Ixta grinned, “She’s right here.” The brown coatl whirled around and came back with -something dangling in her claws.

At first glance Popo though it was just a large fae. It had the long neck and frills of one. But he blinked, and, no, it didn’t have enough frills to be a fae, the head shape was all wrong, and it was far too heavy set. It blinked blue eyes up at him and grinned. A forked tongue lolled out of it’s mouth.

“I was just messing with a new recipe of Baldwin’s, and, what do you know, I made an egg! And it hatched so quickly too! She doesn’t have a name yet but-” Ixta squealed, pressed a sloppy kiss to the thing’s head. It giggled and squirmed, “Meet our daughter!”

“What.”
