BACKGROUND
Sierra Grove's dragons raise elk, deep within the aspen-rich mountain valley, but tame animals are not for Hircine. There is nothing about him that doesn't scream hunter -- from the stitched-together pelts of the wolves he wears like a royal's cape, to the bones crudely fashioned into armor, to the pack of canines he raises and leads through the forests and arid desert of the Grove.

No dragon could confidently say where he comes from, and Hircine doesn't seem particularly inclined to give up any information. The only hint is his eyes, suggesting some connection to the Lightweaver's realm. But unlike many of light's children he served in a Plague clan -- Cetus' most experienced and most skilled hunter, fighting against the vicious animals of the Scarred Wasteland.

What prompted HIrcine's loyalty is likewise unknown. But he stayed even through the wars, raising Cetus' hatchlings to know the ways of hunting and fighting before they were little more than pups, a vital skill in the deserts. And he was one of the few that survived the final raids that led to Cetus' destruction, following Mercer and Heller to the Grove with the other remainders of the clan.

His hunting skills are prized within Sierra Grove as well, as tame herds of elk don't always suffice to feed a clan of dragons. Hircine mostly hunts through the Grove's aspen trees, occasionally on the mainland -- and he's always the first to volunteer to lead hatchlings to learn chasing down lizards and foxes among the sand.

PERSONALITY
Hircine is perpetually quiet -- a constant source of consternation for the many dragons and beastkin who have turned around to just find him standing there more than once. Of course there's something a little unsettling about him -- but what's not unsettling about an Imperial wearing layers of dead animals, bone and pelt alike, or the pale golden eyes that look decidedly wolflike under the fur. But most have learned to accept it, because besides the off-color fashion choices there's nothing particularly dangerous about him.

To see him hunting, you might think different -- he's nothing so much as a creature of instinct then, chasing down his prey with his pack -- but together with others he's different, completely. The quiet's there, sure; but it's not hard to pick out a sense of humor in the way he always turns away when he finds something funny, or the ensuing grin you can just about pick out under the wolf head, or the way more than one dragon's walked in on him pretending to be killed by a horde of hatchlings. A big softie under that exterior, apparently. Something he'd be taking to his grave, if he weren't so awful at hiding it.
