Biography

Telemain
Bone Warlock
Dissonantly Serene | Calm | Nonchalant
_______________________________

"The bones... twisting, moving, breaking, all at my command."
___________________________________________________

BwyScT2.gif There is a calm serenity about Telemain, but by no means is it peaceful. Those near him can't help but feel unsettled by his calm, unchanging voice. Even in the heat of battle, his voice is the same. No anger. No rage. Just a coolness that chills to the bone. Any emotion he displays is subtle and only those that know him best can detect the changes, however small they may be.

His calmness is that of a crypt, where the dead lay in darkness and the air is cold. Telemain likes to meditate in the darkness, enveloped by cool shadows and chilling whispers. He is numb to the world around him, a numbness born from suffering and an unspeakable past.

Those who don't know Telemain find it impossible to decipher what he is feeling, much less what he is thinking. In true Plague dragon fashion, he uses bones to aid his magic in battle, bones plucked from the aftermath of war, bones taken from the dead. He doesn't care where he gets them.

Telemain hatched in between his two sisters. He was neither the youngest nor the oldest, but was beneath them when it came to physical strength, an attribute his clan valued above all else. His clan was one of open brutality that despised all forms of magic. Even healing spells were something to be scorned.

Growing up, Telemain struggled to keep up with the pace his sisters learned at, but he could not match their prowess in close combat. He was labeled as weak, mocked by his clan and sisters alike for his runty body. He could not fight, and to them, this made him worthless. He was lower than the dirt, a moth had more value than he. The insults would come suddenly and unrelenting.

The day started out hot. A sickly cloud lay over the Scarred Wasteland. There was a rare quiet in his clan, everyone holed up in their lair to avoid the worst of the heat and stench in the air, but not Telemain. He was outside, among the stink and the heat. He wanted to prove that he could do something they wouldn't. He stayed out there for hours, wandering the Abiding Boneyard.

Something crunched beneath his paws. Telemain paused, looking down to find the broken shell of a skull shattered around his paw. It was tiny and rodent like. Telemain stared at it, his attention drawn to every crack, every break, every detail. He found himself able to see how it had broken and how it could be put back together. As if sensing his thoughts, the bone fragments began to shudder. They moved around his paw, clattering and shaking as they pieced themselves back together. A moment later, a unbroken skull sat before him, the very image of what he had just pictured.

Discovering his magical ability to manipulate bones gave him a moment of ecstatic joy. He could do something! He wasn't worthless! But that joy was washed away by the sudden horror of what it meant. He had done magic, despicable magic, magic his clan would do much more than mock him for. They would kill him on the spot, no mercy, just brutal and swift extermination of the thing they hated most.

Telemain, despite the risk, worked to control this new magic. He would sneak out during the night. He would put together whole skeletons and than rip them apart. He would bend the bones until they shattered into a hundred fragments. On one such night, he was returning to his den and ran into his parents. They were furious with him and his earlier failure that day to lay even a scratch on his sparring partner.

He tried to verbally defend himself against their accusations, but his mother slapped him. Hard. Harder than she had ever before. Telemain retreated into himself, throwing up an icy wall of indifference. His heart grew numb. Too many harsh words. Too much cruelty. They had no idea what he was capable of. He would make them suffer. Telemain began to fine tune his ability, discreetingly manipulating his clanmates. A twist of the ankle, a twinge in the wing. Small things that could be written off as nothing.

The clan may have been blind to what he was doing, but they were growing tired of harboring the worthless Fae. He was another mouth to feed, a mouth they didn't want. They plotted a way to get rid of him. They brought in his sisters and ordered them to do the deed. They sent Telemain and his sisters on a scouting trip, far from the clan's territory.

They attacked the moment his back was turned. Telemain turned his magic on them. They never saw it coming. Their bones became rigid. They could not move, not even twitch, so tight was his grasp on them. He killed the youngest first, driving her rib bones into her lungs. He fractured the skull of the second. Telemain felt nothing but a cold, calm, detachment as he smiled down at them. Before he left, he changed the position of their bodies and added exterior wounds, making it look like they had killed each other in a fight.

They were found by a clan scout soon after. They never found Telemain, who had no intention to ever return. He traveled the Scarred Wasteland, practicing his ability on those unfortunate to cross his path. He would twist their bones, drive their ribs into important organs, or leave their bones with an odd growth that was clearly painful. They called him the Dissonance when a Skydancer who encountered him sensed that the Fae's emotions didn't change. Telemain grew notorious in the Wasteland. Dragons would run at the sight of him.

Telemain grew bored of the Wasteland and came into the Tangled Wood. He visited a clan there, asking for a place to rest for the night. He never left, the clan accepting him into their ranks, unaware of the monster in their midst.

Theme song : It's a wonderful world - Hamo

  • Mediates often.
  • The bone and skulls he wears and hoards are used in battle.
  • Never loses the calmness and gentleness in his voice, even when killing or harming others.
  • Does show emotion, but barely.
  • No one in the clan knows his past, they also don't know of his reputation in the Wasteland.

    Back story
  • Middle child.
  • Clan he lived in was very brutal, and the clan hated any forms of magic.
  • Struggled to keep up with his sisters.
  • Was constantly put down by everyone in his clan.
  • Was called weakling, runt, or worthless.
  • Realized his ability to manipulate bone, never told it to anyone, out of fear of death.
  • Grew more and more desperate, until an incident made him finally snap.
  • Instead of going into an endless rage, became eerily serene instead.
  • Started to secretly hone his ability on his clanmates. None of them even thought that he was doing it.
  • Leaders and parents started to get tried with him, entire clan fromed a plan for the sisters : to join him on a scouting trip, and kill him. Both accepted.
  • On trip, now faraway from lair, sisters tried to kill him. He stopped them both by causing their bones to suddenly become rigid, stopping them.
  • Killed youngest first, then the oldest. Simply smiled while doing this, saying goodbye to both.
  • Changed the positioning of the bodies, along with making more wounds on them, and their weapons to make it look like they killed each other.
  • At the lair, everyone thought the mission would successfully rid them of him.
  • When the sisters never came back, they sent another scout to check on them. The scout returned bringing news of both sisters death, the brother nowhere to be found.
  • He simply wandered around, all while honing his powers.
  • Various dragons have tried to kill them, only for their clanmates to find them dead, bones either twisted, fused, or in one case, ribbones stabbing into their lungs. Or like this.
  • Became known as the Dissonance, after a skydancer who encountered him learned that his emotion doesn't change or switch from calmness, smiling even when killing.
  • Became so feared, as soon as they saw him they either runaway, hide, or try to stay calm.
  • Got tired of the Wasteland, wandered into the Tangled Wood.
  • Presented himself to the leaders as a wanderer. Asked to rest for the night.
  • Never left.

Quote:
There came a point where the surrounding noise and chaos became so overwhelming that it circled back around on itself and elevated her to a state that was almost zen-like. It was not a state of peace, precisely… it was a state of detachment, like that of a person who has endured so much that they become numb to it.
