Biography

tumblr_oe3ippBwq31umtd1vo1_1280.png

The life of a desert thief is no life for a child. That is something Kennan and Tahlora have agreed on since their first clutch, and so though it pains their parents to abandon them so, these children are born having never known their mother and father. They are left as eggs at the gates of Baalim, where they are taken in by the city's scribes. To be a scribe in the kingdom of Baalim is to be part of their sacred history, ever in the process of tending to the old scrolls and the history of their precious home since even long before the Martyrs. They are not priests, but their reverence for the Martyrs is similar to worship, and they live their lives in such a way that their libraries mimic temples, and their practices rituals. It takes great dedication and discipline to be a scribe of Baalim, and so while many of them are kind to the hatchlings they adopt, they are sometimes distant and absorbed in their work. Children raised in the libraries are expected to earn their keep through chores and manners, and though life is somewhat dull in that regard, the stories more than make up for it. The scribes of Baalim have not forgotten the power of verbal storytelling, and so a large part of their practices is the telling of elaborate tales. These hatchlings are encouraged to write their own stories, and those that show no interest in remaining at the library to become scribes are often instead taught the ways of the poet. They are usually sent away to share their stories with the magics of the world, for here in the Trick World, carefully crafted words can be as powerful as magic. They often become bards and storytellers, imbuing their lyrics and prose with magics to bring them to life.
