Biography

seosen wrote on 2022-12-12 10:13:53:
I love Pine!! He just looks so cool, I love a dragon that looks like they're a spy/assassin/thief. His alchemist tools make him look like he's up to no good so I just gotta choose him.

PINE
Boreal Thieves

He never asked to be the favorite. Born from his parent's second nest, one of six children in total, Pine was the only one so far to be born a nocturne. His siblings were all skydancers, and his mother, a nocturne herself, instantly favored her son that mirrored her own image. From the moment he was born he was lavished with attention from his mother. When his sister, Timber, broke her wing while climbing one day, Dreary vowed to never let any such harm come to her baby again, but ironically, it wasn't Timber that she had vowed to protect. It was Pine. Dreary's slight overprotection of her son quickly became irrational and obsessive. She was afraid to let Pine do anything on his own, or take any risks, out of fear that something bad would happen to him.

Falkor, the clan patriarch, acted as a surrogate to Dread and Dreary's offspring. The parents were typically very hands off in the raising of their children, entrusting Falkor to bring them up right. But, with Pine, Dreary became extremely overprotective. Even when she gone, performing her duties as a night scout for the clan, she insisted that Falkor not let the young dragon out of his sight. A bitter resentment began to well up inside of the young nocturne. Every time he tried to join his siblings as they explored the world around them, playing in the trees and the snowbanks, he was immediately ushered back to the safety of the nest. Falkor saw how frustrated the young dragon was at his forced confinement. Sure, if he was grounded to the nest he could never get hurt, but he could never live either. The sheltering of the young nocturne had gotten out of hand. Falkor watched as Pine slipped into a deeper depression day after day from the safety of his nest. One night, when the parents were off patrolling the south side of the clan's territory, Falkor woke Pine from his sleep. His siblings dozed contently and never heard Pine and Falkor's conversation just several feet from the nest.

"You need to leave. Your mother loves you dearly, Pine, but you can never have a life here for as long as she feels she needs to protect you. She'll be furious at me, but I can handle it. I'll tell her you snuck off, that I tracked you going east, but you'll be heading north. You can go to any region of Sornieth that direction. You can join another ice clan. It's your life. You're free now to live it as you wish."

With that, Falkor handed him a cloth bag packed with food, bits of various material and a few pieces of treasure for him to barter with on his journey. He told him all he could about how to survive on his own in the wilderness and how to protect himself against hostile dragons in the short amount of time that they had before his parents were to return. With a lump in his throat and tears in his eyes, Falkor said goodbye to his surrogate son and watched him disappear into the forest to start a life of his own.
